Hi Gerry Were you a member of the Miramichi RCR Association when you were in Chatham? I was the Transport Controller during your time on the Mighty Miramichi. I just can't place you, I know a few of the names you mentioned and I sure visited your department enough times before my release in Apr 96.

Hi Aldore, yes i remember you well! When we all first started posting I looked at your photo and said to my wife, Jackie (she was the mil clerk at the B hosp), that man looks familar - then i saw your bio and bang it hit: that's Mac from base transport ! We talked a bit at the hosp (Dave McKenzie, Danny Dominix, Shelly Gero were some of the the other cpls there; Mark Sullivan was our masterjack); I was a young medic (cpl; had LOTPed about 2 years earlier after 6 years at 1RCR). I should have, but really never got involved at the chapter there ( I think i went to one event with Tommy Jagoe who I believe was one of the founding members): I was still single and 'socializing' at the Hooper, Opera House, Town & Country (before it closed); etc, etc, - always managed to choke back a few slider's from Ben's at the end of the night if I couldn't pick anything up LOL. After London, Chatham was the best posting I had. After jackie finishes her contract (20 years, buying back 8 years reserve) here in Sept Iles, wer'e settling in Robertville (jackie's home town, just outside of Bathurst).

Hi Gerry, ranrad here, of course i remmber Rick Miller, and Vern Derry and i go back to the beginnings together.. i imagine he and his wife Mary are now retired there. I had a lot of good times on the Mighty Miramichi... that much is guaranteed there.. seems strange that the base is no onger there. I think they got the Cf pay serves or something in llieu did they not.. and it sounds like the Q's there are part of a retiremnt village... i have even thought of rolling back that way, prices seem pretty good and i know the people are TOPS, anyway, thats about it for now, ranrad

Hi Ranrad, after Chatham, myself, Vern, Mark Sullivan went to Gagetown; Vern was lab tech there, Mark went to to the TMT room and I went to 2RCR UMS / 'Jumpin' Jay' Coy medic (BJ was my CSM). Vern finished his time about '97 and went back to Chatham. Mark got medically released about the same time and retired Welsford area. Rick Miller got his retirement posting to Gander and built a house close by in his home town; a couple of years after that I heard he sold his house and moved to Gander - apprantly too many of his old buddies kept 'dropping by constantly' and started to drive him nuts! (LOL yeah, sounds like home on the rock! ). When I was doing recruiting i did a lot of travelling (about twice a month) to the north shore and sometimes drove through the Q's and base. The brick Q's are in a shambles and should be demolished; but the rest are well kept as a retirement community. Still a couple of the old buildings are there: gym, churches, officer's quarters, supply etc, but a good chunk are gone and other civvie establishments are there. the two 'golden hawk' planes were still there when I was there about a year ago. I was doing a medical on a recruit applicant about a year ago and he said that Ben's was shutting down ! - tragic if you ask me; it was like a historical monument - also was good to get a couple of burgers after the bars closed and staggered up the road to the base; many a saturday mornings i woke up covered in ketchup, mustard and grease! LOL
