I appreciate this is an unusual request but the militia /reserve unit in question is doing this as a gesture for veterans and the watch is a true commemorative piece which doesnt exist anywhere else in the world.

thanks for your consideration.,

Please not that I have sought and received permission to post this from yr webmaster

the Right Time to Honour Veterans

23 (Hamilton) Service Battalion is a Canadian Reserve unit located at CFRB Hamilton (Canada). It shares facilities with HMCS Star-Naval Reserve and the historic Tribal class world war two destroyer, HMCS Haida. The battalion has an effective strength of 100 personnel and is one of three such formations in 31 Canadian Brigade Group (London Ontario).

The year 2005 marks the 40th Anniversary of 23 Service Battalion. In planning for its celebrations, the unit commissioned two elegant limited edition timepieces to represent EME and Logistics; key human elements of the Battalion’s strength.  Its predecessor units served on the western front in world war one, italy and the schedlt estuary in world war two and in korea.

Proceeds from these watches will go to heritage and cultural activities at the unit as well as to the EME kit shop in CFB Borden because, as Unit CO Lieutenant Colonel Jenny Newton states, "It is critical to preserve history as it unfolds. The soldiers of today are Canada’s veterans of tomorrow. They should have a commemorative to represent their proud service to our nation. "

More importantly, 2005 also marks the 60th anniversary of VE DAY and the Year of the Veteran. In the spirit of community involvement, 23 Service Battalion decided to honor these historic events with a third watch to commemorate VE DAY and to salute veterans in a tangible and lasting way.

The VE watch which is the culmination of this effort, is a true limited edition. The watch, which is made by the Seiko Corporation, has a value of $180 (Canadian), but is being sold for a mere $65.00 (plus applicable taxes). It is the only such timepiece in the world and the order, once finalized, will not be repeated

A substantial portion of profits from the Anniversary VE watch will be directed to St. Peter's Hospital, Hamilton, a palliative care facility and world leader in Alzheimer’s research. St Peter’s is home to a number of World War Two veterans in their long-term care and also out-patient clinics.

Watches can be viewed at www.TIMEISTICKING.CA or by simply Googling VE watch. The battalion website is www.23servicebattalionassoc.ca.

The watch and the initiative were featured in the Toronto Sun 8 June 2005 - Mike Stroebel's column and there are a number of articles and communications forthcoming both nationally and internationally, including CBC, the Maple Leaf and papers in western Canada....

your support is greatly appreciated... please view the site and spread the word.... its a great watch and a greater ideal...
