Dave Payne retired  RCR was the father of  Randy  one of the soldiers killed in Afghanistan on the weekend.  Dave Payne was with  1RCR in Germany 62-65. He spendt 30 years in the service.  The papers are conflicting on the time for the service in Gananoque.  We know it will be Monday May 1 -  10Am.... the church will be the United Church on Stone Street in Gananoque.

Hi Cor

Don't tell me it was David Payne's son killed on the wknd?

Grief and anguish rippled through Canada's military community Saturday as family and friends tried to deal with the deaths of four soldiers killed in a roadside bomb explosion in southern Afghanistan.

When i was talking to John Harper on the phone yesterday , both of us wondered if Randy was Dave's son ? I knew that some of Dave's chilldren , were born in Lahr , and the newspaper confirmed that , and of course you say to yourself it could not be . Sadly the newspaper confirmed the death of Randy , aged 32 , of Wainwright Alberta , married with two small children . Dave retired to the Gananoque area , and has since moved to the Peterboroug area . Dave was in tpt pl with John Harper and myself, in Fort York , in the early sixties . Dave was also a member of the national association of the RCR . My sympathy goes out to the Payne family in their time of sorrow . "PRO PATRIA"
