Departed Comrades Update on The RCR Association Web Site
« on: May 11, 2005, 05:02:00 AM »

I've just completed an update to the Last Post section of The RCR Association web site at http://www.execulink.com/~thercran/last.htm to reflect the listing in the recent publication of The Pro Patria.

Nobles, S/Sgt F.L.. CD (Ret'd) was mistakenly placed in the print publication as having passed on 30 Nov 04, and has been amended on the web site to reflect his passing on 15 Jan 2002.

Please have a look and let me know of any errors you may find either on the site or print publication.

A list of members not currently listed on the site are being compiled for the next publication, and will be added to the Last Post section of the site when the next print publication comes our, when verified by the Association.

Thank you so much for your help.

I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I've been away on vacation.
I checked the Last post on the RCR Association site and noted that the earliest entry is 1999.  I recall when I first took over as volunteer web master, the Association was having me just post a list of recent departed members and removing older notices from the list, to reflect the lists in the yearly print publications of the Last Post.
With the thought that some people might discover the site later than sooner, it was agreed on that we'd no longer remove entries, as someone might miss the passing of a friend if they didn't find the site until a year or two after the member had been removed.
I'm currently working on creating a list dating back as far as time will permit, by going through older publications, though would appreciate it if you could send the details to my email address at thercr@sympatico.ca including the Town and Province, and if you like, Rank while serving as well as if you know if he had a CD medal.   I'll make a point to add your father to the list soonest.
Sincerely, Brian D. Watters

Hey Bri.

I recieved an E-mail a couple of weeks ago about Pete Rafton, cpl, ret, being killed by a bus on Toronto. I served with him in Germany, mortars, went to germany again after the PPCLI rotated out of Baden in 88 so I guess he spent most of his career in 3 RCR.

Anyhow, I hear he fell on hard times at the end so I'd hate for him to fall through the cracks and his premature demise not recorded in the last post .

Thanks Mike, we heard about Pete almost right away at RHQ.  With the Last Post on the main association web site, I have to wait until names are verified and published in the Connecting file or Pro Patria before I post them online.  This part of the site in the message board helps us get the information that we might not have already received, to RHQ to be posted both in the print and online listings.
It's really good that you mentioned Pete, as I should have been on top of that when we were originally notified.
Thanks for your diligence, and I'm also saddened at the loss of your friend and a good Royal.
