  Chenier,Olivier,RCR aged 26, Chenier,Wilfrid,RCR aged 27. Since April9,1917
they have rested in Cabaret Rouge Cemetery in France. They were heroes
of the Vimy Ridge Battle. Sons of Janvier Chenier and Rose Delima Hamelin
of Buckingham Qc. Brothers of Joseph,Delphis,Noe,Isidore,Emmanuel and
sisters Clorida and Eva.Having no direct descendants,we,their numerous
nieces and nephews ask,for a kind thought and a prayer on this day,to
  commemorate their lives.We shall remember.

The above "In Memoriam" appeared in the Ottawa Citizen this week.
The body of the" UNKNOWN SOLDIER" came from the Cabaret Rouge
Cemetery, and now lies at the foot of the NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL
in Ottawa. Although nobody will ever know, perhaps the " UNKNOWN
SOLDIER" was a member of THE ROYAL CANADIAN REGIMENT ?

Having been to Vimy Ridge twice, one can only wonder in awe how they
did what they did. Rats, lice, cold, rain, mud, death and destruction, and
many other horrible events too numerous to mention. They certainly
were the bravest of the brave.

Just pausing to remember the gals and guys, who served in that living
hell called WW 1 . "LEST WE FORGET" and "PRO PATRIA"

Hello Earle:  Can you let me know what date the notice on the Chenier brothers was in the Ottawa Citizen?  I would like to track it down.  I have a photo of their graves at Vimy and will ask Brian Watters our moderator to post it for me.  Pro Patria, RT

The Chenier brothers joined up on the same day, were given consecutive numbers, died on the same day and were buried side by side at Vimy.  April 9, 1917

R.T. The notice appeared in the Ottawa Citizen on Friday , April 07, 2006 .
either the paper , or the nok had the date of their deaths wrong , listed
as April 07, 1917 . I checked the date out on the CWGC site , and yes
both brothers died on April 09 , 1917. The guest book in the Citizen will
be there until May 07, 2006 . I signed it , and am sure the family would
appreciate as many signatures as possible from the Regimental family .
Thanks Brian for posting the pictures of the headstones , of the two
RCR heroes , Olivier and Wilfrid Chenier .
If we don't remember , who will ? "PRO PATRIA"
