The Rev. Matt Roberts passed away on Junuary 17, 2006, at Bells Corners, Ontario.  Rev Roberts served with 1 RCR in Korea as the popular and respected unit chaplain.  Padre Roberts was a native of Pushthrough, Nfld.  In Korea he helped to arrange the adoption of Willy Royal, the Korean war orphan, by The Regiment.  In 1997 Padre Roberts' name was added to the Honour Roll in the Chapel of the Four Chaplains near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.  This chapel is a memorial to four U.S. military chaplains, each of a different faith, who died when their troopship was torpedoed in WWII, each having given away his life jacket to a soldier who needed it.  The Honour Roll at the chapel recognizes clergy who help and protect others, regardless of faith.  Padre Roberts was 93 years of age.

On Jan .17, he was pushed out of Christ Church Anglican Church in Bells
Corners , as military friends lined the walk , many in uniform and Legion
blazers , saluting his casket as it passed . When a man lives to 93 , he has
usually outlived friends and relatives and there are few to say goodbye .
So it was unusual that the funeral of The Venerable Matthew King Roberts
had a standing room crowd of 300 . He was a quiet man who lived a quiet
life , and those who got to know him say it was a privilege .
I guess it was quite a site , seeing the good Padre and wee Willy Royal
together . Where Padre Roberts went there was Willy tagging along .
Having a look at the casualty list of the RCR in Korea , i don't know how
Padre Roberts had time for Willy , but that is the type of person , Padre
Roberts was ,  always thinking of somebody else . The Ottawa Citizen ,
published a half page article on the life and times of Padre Roberts , soon
after his death . Long live the men of the ROYAL CANADIAN ARMY
CHAPLAIN CORPS , who served so well in peace and war . "PRO PATRIA"
