Jim. As I'm scrolling through your chronograph of service (good idea, eh? I wish more guys would use the format as it makes it easier to indentify them in a sense of when they served. And with who!) I was struck by the posting out west.

Base Chief Warrant  Officer of.....CFB Wainright? Wheeewwwww! You got Cajones of steel.... or was this somebody in Ottawa's idea of humour?

Mike.

PS I was in the 3RCR pipe band for about half a year, freaking thing is a lot different then playing a guitar... what instrument did you play in the Corps of Drums?

Hi Mike

I'm sure that nobody ever told you what power the CWO Adm(Per) had. I don't have to tell you that I worked for a three star (Lt Gen) eg. Kent Foster PPCLI, (LT Gen) Paul Addy 5 RALC. Used to go to and sit on "O" Gp's, Work Grp's eg. Adm(Per) business, Conditions Of Service, The Forces CWO's Working Gp, many road trips to Borden, Kingston, Royal Roads, Montreal, Germany, Val Cartier, The Citadel, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Yellowknife and places and places...........and dealt with things you wouldn't understand (no insult).

Well the time came for me to move to Montreal or Chilliwack and Mike Bambrick, (Of 2RCR), Base CWO Wainwright was getting out I said yes to Camp Wainwright. One thing that many people don't know is when The PPCLI Battle School amalgamated with the Camp into Western Area Training Center I became the FIRST CWO of the PPCLI Battle School. Now imagine that a Royal as the CWO of the PPCLI Battle School eh. Well thats it in as few words as possible. Por Patria

Oh yeah I played the Glockenspeil and any other instrument they came up with. There was Pichler and me.

Oh yeah I now know how to play any instrument besides Guitar, Drums, Saxphone, Organ & Piano and anything. I have a recording studio, was a Disc Jockey played in a band since 1960 but now have this ^%$%^#& STROKE.......

Very interesting, Jim.

But I think, if I had the power you did, I would have picked Chillwack over Wainwright in a heartbeat.  Wink

Hi Mike

Well I had a posting to Chilliwack before and I made a promise never go the same place more than once. I can't imagine going to a place that I had a hand in closing. Adm(per) and I had the pleasure of going to Chilliwack a year ahead and tell them of the closing. We met with the B Comd and told them that they would be moving to St.Jean, after all CFB Chilliwack was a Adm(Per) unit. We had 5,000 people in Adm(Per) and that amounts to 150 CWO'S. You say I was busy..........and I wasn't looking for a busy job. The motorcycle accident, where I suffered a broken neck in two places C5 AND C7 and my back L5, was causing a problem.  My wife CWO Norma Hickson told me if I took Montreal bla bla bla......So I took Camp Wainwright and the rest is history. So lets say I turned down Army CWO for Wainwright.

Army CWO! Damn! Now that were a Royal should be... permanently! snicker.

How is your back now, Jim? I had another operation over in Germany a couple of years after leaving the Regiment, German neurosurgeon, screwed me up good but, to his credit, accepted the responsibility when it came time to pensions. Were it not for the aqua orientated therapy the Germans insisted I take instead of the Canadian based therapy, I think I'd be close to a wheelyyychair now.

Remarkable what a warm pool can do for the wounded frame, specially with the floatation aides they have now. I use this thing called an aquajogger, provides bouyancy so your head is out of the water but nothing else. You cannot drown. Then you go deep and, floating, walk, jog or run with your feet not touching the bottom. Like taking a traction, really loosens up the spine in a gentle manner. Of course, you do other excercises, many of which I am certain you are familiar with through physio... anyhow, if you get tot he pont where very little esle works as far as back pain, relief may be just around the corner at the local Y.

You should start working on your memoirs, Jim. The breadth of your service and the positions held would make for a good read.

Mike.
