3 RCR Germany 2009

Hello All,

Some of us former 3 RCR types have been getting together annually out in New Brunswick.  Last year was my first opportunity to go and hook up with Royals that I haven't seen in 20 years.  There is a webpage for this reunion at 3RCRReunion@groups.msn.com .  On this webpage I listed a suggestion of a 3 RCR reunion in Germany on the 25th anniversary of the first RCR repat in August 1984, which puts us in to August 2009 for a reunion.  Plenty of time to start planning and talk it up for a hopefully a great turnout.  Just thought I would post this suggestion and the website here for any 3 RCR soldiers interested in such a get together.

Cheers and Pro Patria,

Des Carter (1982-85)

At the moment there is a MSN webpage setup for the past 3 RCR reunion.  The webpage is 3RCRReunion@groups.msn.com  Hope this helps.  There are photos on the webpage and you might see people you know.  Cheers.

Sorry Des, clicking on your link which contains the @ symbol only opens the viewers email program.  You'll need something that contains www.Huh??.Huh??.msn.com in order to point to a web page.
Cheers!

Rob Vokey, and Gerald Skibinsky; two names I’ve not heard for over 18-years.  I was a rifleman in M Coy, then the storeman; have some great memories!

Hope everyone is safe, and doing well!

In regards to a 3 RCR Germany Reunion – if someone can set it up, count me in…I would love to bring the family over to see the old stomping grounds.

Cheers,

Dave

I'd like to see as many Mike Company lads, specially those of us who came from 1RCR when Delta company became Mike company, get there as possible. Twenty-five years, Good lord, where has the time goneeeee.... Hey Dave, was the Co's name Allison or Ellis? I recall Wil Warren was the CSM (RIP) and, ah, Captain Berthune was the 2ic.... We should write these names down before we all go senile.... snicker....

Hey Mike, the OC's name was Ellis or Ellison,or Elliston, unfortunately he went back to Canada early and major Berthiaume took over the Coy.  I've got some B&W photos I took at the Coy smoker we had up in Sennelager, I'll have to get a scanner so I can get these pics online.  I had a photo of the OC and his driver standing on top of their track after it had sunk during water crossing in a quarry. I don't know if you remember, his driver forgot to turn on the sump pump and left the drain plugs out. Those of us on dry land found it highly amusing! Ha!

Barton!!!! Barton was driving the track..... he forgot to put the drain plugs back in.... holy crap, that was funny.... you got to get a picture of that on the site... Man, we had some good times the first year, eh? I don't think we realized how lucky we were going over as an entire company,,,

For the life of me, I thought thye OC's name was Alliston, or something like that. He was good guy, to bad he had to go home early. You will recall, there was a slight change in attitude when Major Evans arrived. No more Mulll of Kyntyre, if you know what I mean. I tell you one thing, brother, we sure could run like the breeeze........

A Germany reunion would be nice,  are we allowed to leave our wives at home?  I would be interested in going, although I wouldn't really know any of the older crowed.  Hey BD are you interested?  non the less, it would be fun, and if I remember right the Baden baths is full of flight attendants on wednesday afternoons Smiley

Re-union in Baden sounds like a great idea. We'll have to have a toast at Tiffany's for old time sake. I wonder if Al Kings, Randy Mcdowels and Scotty's picture is still on the wall downstairs.

I found a site called "CFB Baden Remembered". It has some photos from the past and what the base is like today. The main gate is still there, without the guard shack, many of the old shacks are still standing. The base has been turned into a civilian airport. There's also photos of "Hugie", "Tiffany's" and the "Gruner Baum". I could go for a decent "Schnitzel mit pom fritz  mit Grosen Weisse Beer Bitta".

Hey Mike the last time i seen you, you were in the "Pipes & Drums". Do you still play?

Chet! How the hell are you? Truth is, I never got very good on the pipes and when I got promoted to master corporal, it was suggested to me, by the RSM at the time Mr. Tompkins) , my career would be better served back in the battalion. Yes, sir, RSM! snicker. He was right, of course, two years later I was a sergeant back in London. Good times never the less and, with plugs in my chanter and a little imagination on the finger placement, who knew! That the only noise coming out of my pipes during  parade was the groans of the drones.... Wink

Good to see your alive and kicking.

Mike.

Nice to hear from you Mike. I'm in London, my wife is from here so i had no say in were i was going to end up, "Niner" soon put her foot down after i had suggested Fredricton, should have just kept my big mouth shut "LOL"

Anyhow i was released in 01 with a medical, SISIP sent me to school and i came out with a computer software engineering degree. I work from home writing software for various companies. Lifes been good, our daughter is in her last year at UWO, she wants to pursue a career in teaching, next year she's of to teachers college.

I came back to London in 92, the wife had cancer so in order to get her treatment, they posted me to 4RCR as a cadre, killed 2 birds with one stone, there was and opening at the unit for a reg force Cpl  and my wife got her Chemo at Univeristy hospital. Funny how things just work out.

What are you upto these days? Are you still in the dental field.

Nope, I'm afraid that was a tactical error on my behalf... I think my hands were to big! bawahahahaa!
Anyhow, trade wasn't to good for the spine either and, after another trip to Baden on the other side of the fence, ended up blowing out another diskand having another operation. There, not here. Not good, civies, ended up on the hospital list in baden and NDMC for a couple of years then released with pension. Cest le vive, my brother. Life's good here in Niagara,  pension is enough, family is healthy, all ist gut!
