I believe this is in Paderborn in 60's.  I ran by this site on a regular basis when I was with 3 RCHA track team.  It is amazing what we "didn't know" about the happenings in this area during the war.

Hi Rick

It was near Belsen in 1965 and I was in A Coy when I took that pic.

Hi Jim:  On the other side of that monument it gives the number "50,000 Russians" as the total of those who died at the prison camp.  The area was within walking distance of our bivvy area in Sennelager in 1965.  I had begun to believe it was at Soltau but that seems to be over-ruled by the majority here.  Fitz Feitschinger and I walked out to it one evening en route to a gasthoff which was located deep in the woods.  Best regards to you and to all, RT

Geez ,i remember that Gasthof.. nicely hidden, sort of, in the woods. It is hard to imagine 50, 000 guys destroyed in one small area. makes one glad he was not born a bit sooner. We all owe so much to really ,so few ,who gave up their youth, at the least and in many many cases ,their lives. ranrad
