Jim, I think you have the date wrong on your title as Im pretty sure this is 1983 as RSM Northrup is driving the bus. So to speak.
These fellers I know. Johny O'Q, Reg Thompson, Mr Northrup, Graham, Yourself
2nd...blank, Phil Johnson, Doug Biddel, Frnk Hutchins, George Watson
3rd ah, Howard was his last name, of this I'm sure. Denis leblanc, Joe Piorier, mortarman extrodenaire, Greg Starky and in the back row, Al Lussier.
Ah, those were the days!

Dennis was my section commander in depot, Italy Platoon, summer of seventy seven. Bernie Irvine was the PL WO. inbce you were there mac, would you refresh my memory? I can vaguely recal George Hemswrth and maybe Bud Abbot, Dennis and Steve Elliot? Cple Billings? Who else was on the cadre then? And who was the Platoon Commander? MacNaulty?
I wonder where the hell I was the day the picture was taken as I was a FC in 1RCR Mortar Platoon in 83 with Joe Piorier, Greg Starky and Phil Johnson, Billy Norman, Ray Cluet and Bob Schramm. Hmmm, FOO Tech course in Pet, methinks. Bad timing for me, Nice picture. I wonder where those guys are today cause that was one hell of a time to be a young sergeant in London...
Speaking of Mess pictures. If anybody has that beauty they took of the WO&Sergeant's Mess for the 100th please feel free to post. We all recieved smaller version (the same one hanging in the snake pit in London today) but there was a large version hanging in the foyer. My question is, when the 1st moved to Pet and the new mess opened, what ever happened to it? You will recall Prince Phillip was front and center and included those valiant men of the Red Sash who were very fortunate indeed to have been lucky enough to be in 1RCR during the celebration of One Hundred years of service.

Howard! Thats right, JR, worked over at the pioneer workshop.....Jimmy I remember he helped me out making the game of Royal Pursuit by cutting the game board to resemble the famous Eight-Pointed Star! That was a good idea, should have followed through with it but...fate intercened... I think they burried it in a time vault out in Wainright during RV something.... I hope the questions are burried with it as I snuck one in with my name on it. What will historians say, I wonder, if they can remember where they burried it! ;-)
Are you from Wainright, Jim, or did you just decide to retire there?

Hi Mike
No I from come the isle of Montreal. Norma is from Queen Charlotte Islands. We decided to pick a spot in the middle and that's how we ended up in Medicine Hat. You see its not Wainwright because its too far west and I had Suffield under my arm and I used to visit quite often. So we are in Medicine Hat on the highway to east and west or I like to say 1/2 way between our family's.

My mistake, Jim, I thought I read you were in Wainright somewhere. I was in Suffield during the summer of seventy eight when I was a very young snot in Pioneers. Myself, Dick Stafford, Moe Morris and Steve Ruthven... working with Delta Company before it changed into Mike Company and went to Germany. Pretty freaking flat, eh? I think at the time, there was something like four or five trees in the entire training area. Needless to say, it made for for Navigating via the ole Silva veryyyy interesting.... eh Moe? Bwahahahahahaaaaaa.
Good times, lots of live ammo to play with. The Brits put on one hell of a firepower demontration as well. At the time, they brought busses out for Medicine Hat to watch and let her rip just before sunset. Pretty neat. Question is, what do you do for fun once they roll up the boardwalk and call it a night? ;-)

Must have been tough being a Royal in the heartland of Picklyville! Never passing a fault would have cost me my life! bwahahahahaaaaaa...
Pretty soon, Jim, you'll be back in London, which is where I was going until the battalion left. Ended up in Niagara, very nice here, minimal freaking snowww! Most of the time, anyways.
BTW, stay upwind of the base.

Hi Mike
No it wasn't hard being The Royal in a nest of PPCLI. You act and behave in a normal way and that is something a PPCLI can't understand nor do. I had it over them from day one and continued to hold it over them until my last day.Pro Patria.

I remember on my advanced mortars course I shared a room with a VP. Mcpls at the time. We had some good fun, practical joke wise. Passed the time, if you know what I mean. One day I picked one of those little mickey mouse pins down in Oromocto and stuck it on his hatbadge, freaking thing fit perfect in the middle... walked around half the day before one of the instructors on the course finally picked up on it... hilarious.... All in good fun, of course. That was a good course, Charlie Hawks, Mr Mortar, was running it at the time... good man, RIP.
