The officer saluting with the sword is Maj R.D.T. (Bobby) Fletcher and the 2Lt carrying the
colour is Leaping Larry. Fletcher had joined the Royals after long service in the Indian Army until that country gained independence. His claim to fame in 1st Bn was that whenever his signaller got the order"Fetch Sunray" Bobby Fletcher would grab the handset and bark "Fletcheh Heah" in his rich English accent. This breach of voice procedure security would always give the Sigs Offr a heart attack. Fletcheh Heah was a good man.
2Lt Costello was just known as Larry at the the time the picture was taken in 1962. He got named Leaping Larry a little later when he took up sky-diving. He appeared in TV commercials in 65 and 66 doing sky-diving but under an assumed name. It seemed that it was not encouraged for army officers to do TV commercials. Larry later went on the Medical Officer Training Plan and became a doctor. He was a good man. Cpl Rick Rankine used to bug him in various ways in Cyprus in 66-67 but Rick found ways to bug all of the junior officers.

Hi Bob
He was my Pl Comd 62-64 in Germany and he had a nickname over there and it was "Boing Boing" Costello. You usually could see him "Boing Boing" across the skyline wearing a leather coat(long like a Gestapo but white) and screaming "get down!!! Get off the skyline!!!".
