Hello Fellow Royals I was away on holiday and had these replies concerning subj, I've included my reply to the PM, take care all the best. Fred Doucette
Mr Prime Minister Congratulations are in order with your return to office, I hope that the next few years in Parliament will be rewarding and constructive. Now that the election is over I would greatly appreciate if you would take a closer look at the qualifying date for the Sacrifice Medal.
Sadly the reply to my previous letter I sent to you was received from the GGC office and their explanation still nullifies the Sacrifices of the Veterans and Soldiers wounded or killed prior to 2001. I cannot understand what it is with Canada when it comes to recognizing the performance and sacrifices of it's military. It took over 40 years for Canada to recognize our Korean War Veterans with the Korean Volunteer Service Medal. The Peace Keeping Service Medal came about 12 years after Peacekeepers were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1988. A significant piece of history unknown to Canadians is that not only Lester B. Pearson has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize but approximately 80,000 Canadian Service Men and Women also have the right to be called Nobel Peace Prize Recipients.
I`ll get to the point in saying that what is missing is "Recognition". Recognition should always come in a timely manner but for some reason in the case of a Soldiers service to his country it has been slow and in this case nonexistent. I would like to make an observation on recognition, MCpl Mark Isfeld was killed by a mine (AKA road side bomb) in Bosnia his death was announced to Canada as the 8th news item on our national evening news. You know what was first...OJ Simpson trying on a glove at his trial in California, what an insult to his family and his fellow Soldiers. What more can a Canadian do than give his life or limb for his country and what do we and the loved ones we leave behind look for....recognition... and Mr Prime Minister it comes cheap in the form of a piece of ribbon and a chunk of metal. Change the policy quoted below and don`t make wounded Veterans, widows and parents fight for years for the recognition of their Sacrifice to Canada. Thank you for the opportunity to bring this oversight to your attention. Take care all the best. Sincerely Fred Doucette

The date of October 7, 2001, was selected because it is on that day that the operation order for Operation Apollo was signed, which signalled the beginning of Canada's contribution to the international campaign against terrorism in South-West Asia. This date is within the five-year window from the date that the proposal to create the Sacrifice Medal was initially made. > > Please rest assured that this rule in no way diminishes the importance of the contributions made by Canada's veterans who have served in missions around the world during past conflicts. > > Thank you for writing and for your interest in Canadian Honours. > > Yours sincerely, > > Gabrielle D.
