Maj Hugh Conway, CD (retired) a member of 1 RCR from 1961 to 1965, with later service in the NZ (Kiwi) army and the Cdn AB Regt, who lives in Jasper, Alberta, travelled to Spokane, Washington to present Canadian World Wat I veteran John Babcock (left) aged 108 with membership in The Royal Canadian Regiment Association on August 26, 2008. Mr. Babcock joined the Canadian Army in 1917 at the age of 15 and served overseas in the U.K. as a member of The RCR.
John Babcock is the last known surviving veteran of the Canadian Army of WW I and is now the Patriarch, the oldest member, of The RCR Regimental Family. Hugh Conway was assisted in the presentation by Constable Peter Lavalee of the RCMP who lives in Edson, Alberta. Note that John wore his Regimental sweatsuit for the occasion. R.T. Walsh
