Big Steve Whiteford! Geeez, went through Cornwallis and battle school with him, been a long time since I seen his mug. Phil Johnson is sitting beside him with Capt Pearson, Bernie Irvine and Colin Evershed beside him.

I think I see my cousin in their but I'm not really sure. Ray Blais?

Scott Routly, Joe Burns, SSammy Carr, this was a YTEP program wasn't it?  There are quite a few of these guys i remember but at a loss for names with all the hair in my eyes.  Mike i worked with Steve last in Trenton on the Base Defence Force in 92-93.  He was the Snr. NCO in charge, we used to do some ice fishing together on the Bay of Quinte.

**1983 Y-TEP PROGRAM - SICILY PLATOON**

STARTED SEPT. 83 AND FINISHED MARCH 84

INSTRUCTORS 1 SECT. - SGT. COLIN EVERSHED THEN REPLACED BY SGT. LAUGENESE (MEAN SOB) AND HE LEFT, REPLACED BY
                                   MCPL. STEVE WHITEFORD.

                     2 SECT. - MO

3 SECT. - SGT. PHIL JOHNSON THEN REPLACED BY MCPL. KEN PARKER

                     WARRANT - WO BERNIE IRVINE

OFFICER - 2ND LT. MIKE PEARSON (NOW COLONEL)

WITH THIS PICTURE BEING ALMOST 25 YEARS OLD, I CAN ONLY REMEMBER A FEW OF THE NAMES OF PEOPLE IN THE PHOTO. MANY OF THE GUYS EITHER GOT TURFED OR QUIT DURING BASIC AND WHEN WE GRADUATED THE PLATOON WAS SPLIT INTO THOSE GOING TO LONDON AND GAGETOWN.

FRONT ROW-ROB HALL, COURSE STAFF, CHICO BALL, ?, PAUL MOORE

SECOND ROW-?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ? THIVERGE, ?, ?, ?

THIRD ROW-?, ? GAUDET, PAUL BOULEE, ? NORTHWOOD, MIKE BELANGER, MIKE DORAN, ?, ?, JOE BURNS, ?, ?, ?, SCOTT ROUTLEY, ?, ?, BUCK WARREN

BACK ROW-?, ?, ?, ?, MIKE LYNN, ?, TROY MCKENZIE, ? HOLLETT, ?, ?, ?, KUHN, ED CARR, ?, MIKE NOONAN, MYSELF, ?, KEN PARKER.

GREAT BUNCH OF GUYS, SOME STAYED AFTER THE 10 MONTHS AND SOME STAYED FOR 3 MORE YEARS (LIKE MYSELF) AND SOME MADE IT A CARREER.
WE HAD A GREAT STAFF, REMEMBER A FEW INCIDENTS VIVIDLY FROM THOSE TIMES.

1-HAD A MATE (CAN'T REMEMBER NAME) COME INTO A PEMBROKE BAR AND SAID HE WAS JUMPED AT THE WINDSOR BAR, SO BEING THE TOP SOLDIERS WE WERE, WE ALL RAN TO THE WINDSOR, PROBABLY 40-45 GUYS PILED IN AND THEN A HUGE BAR FIGHT BEGAN (JUST LIKE YOU SEE IN THE MOVIES), AFTER A FEW CUTS AND BRUISES WE WENT BACK TO BASE WITH VICTORY IN HAND. A FEW DAYS LATER THE WINDSOR MYSTERIOUSLY BURNED DOWN!!!

2-CANNAUGHT RANGES IN OTTAWA IN JAN. (VERY, VERY COLD). I REMEMBER THE PLATOON GOING IN THE KITCHEN AREA OF THE MESS EVERY NIGHT AND WATCHING PHIL JOHNSONS GERMAN PORN MOVIES, THE GUY SEEMED TO HAVE AND ENDLESS SUPPLY (SOME VERY FUNNY ANIMATED ONES). I ALSO REMEMBER SEEING THE NCOS RETURNING FROM A NIGHT OUT IN OTTAWA, AND MO COMING BACK LOOKING LIKE HE HAD BEEN PUT THROUGH THE RINGER BACKWARDS, WE HAD A VERY QUIET DAY.

3-FINAL EXERCISE IN EARLETON, ARRIVE IN MINUS 25, AND AFTER A FEW DAYS TEMP WENT UP TO +10 MAKING FOR GREAT WINTER DEFENSE WITH EVERYTHING MELTING.

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER ONE OF THE PLATOONS DURING THAT BASIC TIME, WHO HAD A BRITISH LT. THAT MADE HIS PLATOON TRAIN ON THE CONDEMED OBSTACLE COURSE DURING THERE FIRST WEEK, FEEDING THEM ONLY DRY OATMEAL AND WATER. I REMBER 60-70% OF THE PLATOON EITHER QUIT OR WERE RELEASED ON MEDICAL. I QUESS HE WAS ONE SADISTIC SOB, HE QUIETLY WAS RELEIVED OF HIS DUTIES AND SENT TO ANOTHER LOCATION AND THE REMAINDER OF THE PLATOON WAS INTERGRATED WITH OTHER PLATOONS.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
WHYTIE

Hi Karen, sorry I didn't realize that when you deleted a picture on photobucket it took it off this site as well. I went through basic with Scott and was with 1 RCR in London as well. How is Scott doing? Last time I saw him was at a gym in London and he said he was being sent to become a pilot. Hope all is well, and if you need the picture sent directly to you let me know and I can email it to you. Take care and say hi to Scott.

Gord: Welcome to the site. Dial-up connection I bet. If this is the case, after clicking on the thread sit back & wait. Depending on the speed of your connection it could take a few minutes. I'm a dial-up customer so I know what waiting is all about.

Best Wishes: Rick
