Yarmouth duo inspiration for TV’s Dallas

HERE WE GO with some more bits and pieces.
Remember that wildly popular TV series Dallas?
Well, it turns out the show has a rather interesting connection to Nova Scotia, one I never knew about until the other week when I visited the army museum at the Halifax Citadel.
There, in one of the display cases, is a collection of medals won by the Ewings of Yarmouth, two brothers who were the inspiration for the show, or so the story goes.
According to the sign accompanying the medals, brothers Jock and D.H. Ewing joined the Royal Canadian Regiment and fought in the Boer War and, later, the First World War.
On their way back to Canada in 1918, they met a young American soldier who invited them to come visit him on his family’s ranch in Texas, which they eventually did.
Liking what they saw, the brothers decided to settle there and went on to do well for themselves in the oil business. They did so well, in fact, that someone wrote a book about them and this became the springboard for the TV series.
Now, I haven’t been able to find any confirmation of all this on the Internet, but the fact remains, the Ewing medals and the legend are there in the museum, for all to see. Why shouldn’t it be true?

HaHa, that is interesting, I've never heard that before. But you know I don't doubt it at all, it taking a few good Canadians, and in fact Royals to go to Texas and find oil where the "Texicans" could only find land for their Longhorns to feed from. Way to go to the Ewing brothers, fine Royal Canadians!!
