Hi John
One storey about Spin Reid, was when I was in depot in 1961 Sly Sam MacKness who was 2i/c in depot, asked him if the Quarters were clean? Spin said "Yes Sir, they worked all night to bring them to standard". So Maj Mackness said "all right we'll see". He finally came to the washrooms when he asked if the toilets were clean and Spin said "Yes Sir". He then opened the door of one stall and there it was, a big brown ugly thing on the inside of the toilet! Maj Makness let out a sharp loud yell! What is that Sgt? Ole Spin took his index and wiped it off the toilet and rubbed it on his lips and said "Shit Sir". Apparently he was sick and tired of Maj Mackness giving him shit over the toilets so he went out and bought some Peanut Butter and put a glob on the toilet.
May he have a 90th Happy Birthday and many more, Pro Patria!!!

Hi Jim and All Royals:
Just a quick note for those who do not know Spin Reid. Spin was a member of the old "PF", the regular army before WW II. He went overseas in 1939 and did not make Pachino Beach in 1943 because the ship he was in was torpedoed by a German sub. The survivors caught up with the RCR battalion a few days later. Spin was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in action in Italy. Later, after the war Spin was commissioned from the ranks and ended his career as "Capt Spin Reid, MM" a title he wore proudly as the Military Medal was not awarded to officers. He was a Jumpmaster and para instructor at the Joint AB Training Centre at Rivers, Man., for several years.
He is a legend in his own time, a good man and a true Royal Canadian.
