For Larry, ranrad and any other Royal approaching age 65.
Everything you need to understand and apply for the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security benefits to which you are entitled is actually available from the government on-line (I apologize for being unhelpful earlier but I'm still on the road and moderately distracted).
Both programs are administered by yet another of those multi-armed alphabet agencies but you start by logging onto
www.hrsdc.gc.ca, click on HELP at the top of the page, when the new page appears, click on TOPICS and when that page appears, scroll down and click on Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security.
Once that page appears you can select what you want to view and action. You can even submit your application on-line and set up an account so you can track the status of your application, your entitlements and just about everything you need. It's time consuming and sometimes frustrating, especially if you live outside Canada as I do, but it can be done with persistence.
I'm visiting another expatriate Royal of similar years, Craig Mills, this week and plan to guide him through the process.
I hope the foregoing helps.
Pro Patria, Aldi
