Jim,

'A' is Strome Galloway, probably the only person to hold honourary positions with both the RCR and the Canadian Guards.  He was the commandant of Fort Churchill MB when I took my winter warfare course in Feb 1964 -- windchiill of 85 below one memorable day -- while wearing the 10-pointed star.  You might remember the age of skiffle and Lonnie Donigan's 'My Old Man's a Dustman'.  Going around Churchill at the time was a ditty -- "My old man's a Guardsman, he wears a Guardsman's, he wears blue red-striped trousers and he lives in the Churchill Flats."  Great man, now gone.

Cheers.  Al

Hi Al

"A" is definitely Col "Strome". I hold the Canadian Guards high up on my list of things that matter!! When I went to school in Montreal I belonged to the Cadet Corps of Canadian Guards! When I got married (first time)  I went with a girl who's father was in the Guards, Wally Braniff. We used to go out and drink up a few. My wife introduced me to a gal named Geraldine whose father was Ross Bennet. Ross and Audry had two children Geraldine and Danny.

I remember the "Lonnie Donigan" song, My Old Man's a Dustman but I was in Germany where it really took off. In 1989 I had the pleasure of welcoming Col Strome Galloway to Cyprus.  We ate, drank and made merry. So many memories!!!!

Jim
