The picture was taken on opening night of the newly decorated Blue Beret Club at Tjiklos at the top of the Kyrenia Pass close to Bn HQ.  Us junior ranks entertained the officers.  Faintly visible at rear is Cpl Jack O'Brien talking to Maj Jimmy Knox and Cpl Phil Joudry is there somewhere.  We had gotten a shipment of beer from Olands but by then everyone had "gone off" Canadian beer in favour of Tuborg, Carlsberg and Amstel.  There was also a Brit Newcastle beer we liked for the cans which were decorated with pin-up pictures.  We took the cases of Canadian beer and made furniture --piling the cases up as easy chairs and chesterfields.  Very comfortable as otherwise it was stand up and lean against the wall.  If anyone has a picture of the "furniture" in that canteen I would like to see it.  It lasted until a couple of truckloads of Irish contingent soldiers came visiting.  They drank up our furniture and the beer was warm--just the way they liked it.  RT
