The trooper on the left looks like Ingram who was with us up on King William Island on Northern Quest.  Looks to me like that shot was taken at Gladman Point radar station where we had our base camp in 1972.  He was in the boat with Ron Eddy, Dave Willard, Crow Dauphinee and me when we went along the coast of King William.  That is a pretty rough original print, Jim, hard to see people--but, of course, that is part of the Photo Challenge!  Regards to all, RT

A ROYAL CANADIAN "NEVER PASSES A FAULT"

Re: Who is this?
« Reply #16 on: January 15, 2008, 12:19:36 PM »

I shall take a look for the full photograph  later this evening, Jim. But you will have to do some photoshopping for me by removing the wings that are my tunic. A very nervous cadet officer vomited on my tunic about an hour prior to parade while she was having a panic attack and I was attempting to calm her down. (She did very well, BTW) Forced to improvise and adapt, I borrowed Stacy MacAndrews spare tunic, sowed on my stripes and presented my self with seconds to spare. No time to remove the wingees, however, so when the picture was developed, I cropped the lower half of our bodies out of the equation! BTW, no one noticed, the Lieutenant Governors parade, all fourteen hundred kids, two bands (pipe and horn) the colour party and my personal nightmare, the foi-de-joi, went off with out a hitch. Being responsible for the drill aspect of the day, I can tell you I was much relieved when, when it was all said and done, Wally and I retreated to the mess for a quick debrief. I can tell you from the heart, receiving compliments from a man I admired so much was probably one of the highlights of my service.

Naturally, he  treated myself and the twenty some odd Royal Canadians dispatched for the summer tasking great. I borrowed my pops soft top camper for the summer, me and wifey camped out... First weekend, he dropped by the campsite with a big kitchen tent and a small boat with outboard... hell of a summer.

The only problem, of course, was being away from the 1st and finest during the 100th. It would have been nice to be on parade instead of sitting in the bleachers, if you know what I mean. Even there, Wally had me going. Comes in Thursday morning, the day of the meet and greet. He can see that we lads of the Eight Pointed star are, shall we say, a tad eager to hit the ole highway to London. Anyhow, after coffee break he comes into my office all stern of feature and voice (OH oh I'm thinking, someone F'd up) and orders me, in no uncertain terms, to assemble my detachment Royals, and Royals only, on the parade square toute suite.

Bout eleven he comes out of headquarters, I calls the lads to attention, still oblivious and thinking one of the lads got in caca in Thedford last night. He stands us at ease and, glory be, hands us each a signed leave form for the rest of the day Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday!  Pro Patria.... sir!!!!!

Let me tell you, we had us a convoy of happy Royal Canadians heading to London shortly thereafter and most of us were in Beaver Hall enjoying a Royal Blue by the time Prince Phillip and entourage arrived.

Hell of a time to be a Royal Canadian.

I'm pretty sure this was taken that Christmas at the Regimental Dinner. If I remember correctly, Bert Lauriks was sitting across from me. Another fine Royal, eh? RIP.
