todays halifax herald carries the death notice of hugh taylor. hugh served with 2 rcr. he was in fort york in mid 1960's. he was predeceased by his brother richard "chief" taylor, also a member of 2 rcr. the full notice can be read in todays halifax herald. condolences can be mailed to ettingerfuneralhome@hotmail.com pro patria.

TAYLOR, Hugh Cameron 60- Indian Brook passed away Wednesday April 19, 2007 in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Curve Lake, Ontario, he was a son of the late Richard ‘Dick’ and the Rev’d Gladys (McCue) Taylor. He began his military career in 1966 and was honourably discharged in 1986. His involvement over this period of time included a term with the Canadian Navy from 1972- 1976, Canadian Air Force from 1979-1984, the RCR from 1984- 1986. He was stationed in Germany for four years. He was also part of the Canadian Peace Keeping Forces that were in Cyprus and Egypt. He met with dignitaries in regards to Aboriginal veterans and was instrumental in developing the National Aboriginal Veteran’s Association of which he was Vice President. He is a member of Post 1479 American Legion of Akwesasne, New York State. He along with then National Chief Ovid Mercredi, layed the first wreath for the Veteran’s Association during the National Remembrance Day Services in Ottawa. He volunteered with the Canadian Forces in the recruitment of Aboriginal people. Hughie, as he was affectionately known by most, was a renowned chef. While in the military he received his National Chef papers at Borden Military Base. He prepared meals for 5 star generals at the Rockcliffe Base, Ontario, the Governor General of Canada, Ed Schreyer, and Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip. He was involved in catering with the Shubenacadie Band, Millbrook Band, Membertou Band, Treaty Day, Mikmaq Friendship Centre, Mi’Kmaq Family Services, Healing Our Nations, Provincial Aboriginal Affairs Office, Indian Brook School, Native Economic Development Officers, Nova Scotia Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association. He volunteered as a chef at community gatherings and at Indian Brook Schools, where he helped organize and provide a breakfast program. He is survived by his wife Shirley Anne Taylor, Indian Brook, with whom he celebrated their 28th anniversary this past Saturday; daughters June Marie Taylor, Toronto, ON; Michelle Thomas (Raymond Purlee) Akwesasne, NY; sons William (Tammy) Taylor, Peterborough, ON; Richard (Serina Dickie) Taylor, Saint John, NB; grandchildren Bryden Kiwenzie, Wausnodeh Kiwenzie, Cameron Taylor, Tasha Thomas, Trevor David, Austin Taylor, Brent Taylor, Xavier Taylor, great granddaughter Tayla Benedict- Thomas ; sisters Zelda Kinsella (Bill), Peterborough, ON, Harriett Dixon, Curve Lake, ON; Puckwiss Johnson, Curve Lake, ON; ; Rhonda Taylor, Curve Lake, ON; Audrey Knott, Curve Lake, ON; brother Peter Taylor, Curve Lake, ON; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Richard “Chief” Taylor. Visitation will be held 3 pm today at 27 Meadow Road, Indian Brook. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Monday April 23, 2007 at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Indian Brook. Cremation will follow with interment to take place in Curve Lake, Ontario at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to:
