To Ray Allison, I am Hugh Conway, Recce Pl 2 CDO, 1968 = 1973. Who did you serve with during that time, I can't remember you. ?? Hugh Conway
Hello Hugh, I joined 2 Cdo in APS 73. I was 2IC E Coy initially, then went as 2IC HQ Coy in 74 when we went to Cyprus, back to E Coy as OC, then back to HQ Coy as OC, then to RHQ as Regt Trg Offr. I left the Regt in APS 77. Ex Coelis Ray Elliston

AIRBORNE REGIMENT. 1968 - 1973. I was a young NCO back from 3 years with the NZ Army, having spent 4 years prior, with 1 RCR in the early sixties in Ipperewash and Fort York. Arrived in Griesbach Barracks between Christmas and New Year (1969). I'd had my jump course in New Zealand. The Airborne Regiment was just starting, there was no regimental hat badge, just a whole bunch of KEEN SOLDIERS, wearing badges from "The RCR, PPCLI, R22rR, RHI(Black Watch). Cdn Guards, QORC. The organization was Regt HQ, 2 CDO, (D,E,F Coys), 1 Para Bty, 1 Para Fd Sqn, C Coy 1 CDO, and 1 FSSU, in Edmonton, and A , B Coy 1 CDO in BVal Cartier. After an interview with Major Mike "Cold Steel" Barr, I was posted to Recce Pl. Recce Pl was the best group of soldiers I have ever worked with in my carear. The training was very hard and those who didn't hack it were RTU'd, including an individual who had been posted in with a large family, put into a PMQ, couldn't make the physical standard, and was sent back, alone, to shape up. There were no "Super Courses" just hard training, we learned off each other, and leaned on each other. The best soldiering years were spent in late '60's early '70's. IF WE WERE GOOD?? IT'S BECAUSE WE WORKED HARD AND RESPECTED EACH OTHER> Hugh Conway
