Hi Al ; Just wondering if the berets were green or brown ? Most of the pictures from that era that I have seen , usually the troops are wearing forge style hats ? Thanks Tony - I have to say that the battle dress uniform is one Sharp looking uniform ! Pro ! Patria !

I remember all the guys that John Brindle mentioned. It's good to hear from John I worked for him in Germany as the kitchen truck driver for support company. No 1 I think is Granny Rowden. You were asking about Al Tapp, he married John McGean's wife after John passed away. They live in Thornton and I see them around Barrie once in a while. It's good to hear from some of the older guys and maybe in the spring I can get up to Port McNichol to visit you as we are going to Florida on the 27 Dec until April. I travel with another couple of guys from mortar platoon, Hubby Hunter & Bud Sudsbury, Bill Pye and Armand Napman. Keep in touch.

Corp personell wore different colored berets depending on what corp you were with Personally I preferred the cherry beret to the forge cap.Dave, good to hear from you.Do drop in when you get a chance. My phone #is 534-3360.By the way Tony, battle dress was itchy as hell until you got used to it,(wool) but it was warm and sharp also. Great pic..Just for general interest, I live in Woodstock now and on this past remembrance day was delighted to have a few beers at the Woodstock Navy Club with BC Robinson, who still looks fit as a fiddle, last active service with BC was in Cyprus 74. Reminisced about Mookie and he became a little emotional. Mookie used to call him once a month and give him one of his famous sitreps on where everyone was and what they were up to...Pro Patria.

With regard to the earlier question about the timing of the switch from berets to forage caps, I believe that occured in 1957. A lot happened that year -- forage caps, FN rifle, new barracks and messes -- of which the change of headgear was the least expensive. 1957 aldo launched the St. Lawrence Seaway, Trans-Canada Highway and Avro Arrow . . . and the start of the country's first postwar economic recession. Globally, we also got Sputnik and the Ford Edsel that year so the shift in headgear probably got lost in the shuffle.
Cheers. Aldi
