I believe the picture is of the Ranch House, just out side Fort York, circa 1966/67?  There used to be some big poker games there almost every Sunday afternoon, out behind the green roofed building.
Sometime late in 1967 Pioneer's were ordered to dig a trench about 8 feer long and 4 feet wide and about 4 feer deep, right under the hole in the fence leading to the Ranch House. They knew they could'nt stop people using it as a short cut to the Ranch House, but apparently there were some actually driving cars through the hole, which had become rather big.  ( The hole in the fence was right next to the coal depot and just down past the Pioneer Stores and German Canteen.  Myself, Jonny Pauquet and Patty Gillan did the digging, under the superviision of Cpl Manfred Stevens.
  We finished the digging in one afternoon and were given the rest of the afternoon off by Manfred.  The next morning when we got to work at the Pioneer Stores, there was no sign of Manfred, but sometime after coffee break he appeared on crutches, with a hugh leg cast. Apparently, coming back from the Ranch House late that night, and in the dark, he forgot about the hole and fell in, breaking his leg.

The Ranch House. I remember it well.  Grin including the hole in the fence. This was the very first place I visited when I came to Fort York in 1966.

A chap by the name of Turcott took me there, bought 5 bottlers of dopplekorn and gave me two. When he finished his, I gave him back my two and he drank them as well. Dopplekorn tasted like rubbing alcohol.  Sad
