Hello all,
My name is Mike Donahue, I served in the RCR from 72-87. I went to 3RCR O Coy after finsihing PL-3 trg in 73 at CTC Gagetown, then to 2 CDO D Coy in 76, was with the Regt when they moved from Edmonton to Petawawa. Left 2 Cdo in 79 and was posted RSS in Toronto where my boss was RT Walsh who I see is a "big" guy in the association. Left Toronto, and went to the RCR Btl Sch in Petawawa in 81 (I Think), and then back to O Coy 3 RCR in 82-83 (gettin old can't remember), Remustered in 87 to Int and retired in 99. Now working for DND as a civilian analyst in Ottawa. If anyone remembers, me fire off a response. I guess as we all get older, we reflect on our pasts, so that is how I found this site. I have had a few good laughs reading some of the comments this morning.
Take care, and glad to see most of the people I do remember seem to be making out just fine, Mike

Hello Mike:
It is great to hear from you after all these years. I am glad to hear that you are following an interesting career on civvie street. Welcome aboard Old Soldier!
For the general info of all, Mike and I worked together on RSS in Toronto back in the 1970s. Mike protected by 6 o'clock against all hazards and I always felt happier when he was around. He was a true loyal Royal.
Mike stood his ground against all comers and was willing to tell the U.S. Marines at Fort Drum, New York where to get off and make way for The RCR. We also had a very interesting helicoptor assault exercise with the choppers provided by the Maryland National Guard.
In our spare time Mike kept me spellbound by his stories of the airborne which seemed very interesting compared to regular battalion life. He also entertained me with memories of South Lebanon and a certain Major Saad Hadad who was a local dictator who did not impress Mike too much.
Great to hear from you Mike.

Hey there RT,
Great to see you are keeping yourself busy. Does not surprise me that you are heavily involved with the Association. I am not sure how well I protected your 6 though, as I remember it, the we got up to some unusual types of mischief. As I recall, we selected a very interesting local establishment for our lunch breaks. It was fun though.
Great to hear from you RT

Mike Good to see you are still kickin' around. Fond memories of our time in Germany when you, me and Perry Fischer would hoist a few green grenades on Friday afternoon sports days. We never did play a sport on Fridays. I retired in 2004 as the Regt WO at RHJQ. I work as a Commissionaire now here in London. Take care.

Hey Neil Yep, I am still kicking around, beats the alternative. Green grenades, and sports afternoons, those were the days. Did make for a few rough Saturday mornings though. You retired in 04, my God were you using a walker when they showed you the door? Good for you!! Do you know what the Fish man is up too now. I last saw him back in the early 90's when I was in Borden on SLC, and he was working in Toronto (I think) and living in Barrie. If you ever get up to the Nation's Capitol, give me a shout, and perhaps we can have an adult beverage or two. Good to hear from you and you are well.

Hey Moe How is it going?
The main thing I remember about being in Gagetown with you is the flight home. I can't understand why we had to pay for our own filght home. Damn service flights, can't believe they gave our seats away. I distinctly remember seeing that airplane at the gate when we got to the airport. Pity it was already moving when we got there

Hey Buddy, What da ya mean a walker!!! Got alot of life left yet maybe short a few brain cells but ok. The last time I spoke to Perry was around 2004 before I retired. He is still in Barrie. I think he is a Class C Reservist with the cadets in Toronto. Leo Saccary talked him into the job I believe. Hey remember Cyprus 1985 3 RCR, we went on the Turk side to Famagusta for a weekend and got hammered. Room service were too scared to deliver to our room they used to knock, leave it at the door and run. Good times my friend. I think we used the excuse to go was because we were looking for those elusive Turkish tanks. Take care.

Hammered? In Cyprus? Come on, perhaps a tad tipsy but hammered? I remember you climbed over the balcony into our room to wake us up (me and Farrel). Our rooms were 5 or 6 stories up. Hmmmm perhaps your right, a person would have to be hammered to do that lol. Yea I remember that, do you remember going down to the dining room for supper? Just a bunch of polite guys we were There was me, you, Bob Farrel, and who else was there? I remember there were four of us. Then we went into the casino we all had a bottle of wine in our hands, they weren't overly keen on that as I recall. I also remember visiting you out at one of the platoon houses, and don't remember the ride back. Some sort of large white jug full of who knows what It was a good trip that. Mike

Hey Mike, about time you found the board! Always wondered what happened to you. I remember in Cyprus you gave me my test drive in that white van with the right hand steering. Good to see you finally surfaced. I'm still in, working in Borden, living in Barrie. Didn't know Barrie Fisher lives in Barrie, I'll have to look him up. Just checked the phone book, can't find a B Fisher ? Are you coming to the RCR reunion this summer in Kingston ?

Hey Rudy
How are things going. Didn't know there was a reunion this summer in Kingston. What are the dates for that? Maybe I will look somewhere here, the dates have to be somewhere. Although I got out in 99, I am back working for DND, as a civilian in Ottawa. Good to see your still kicking around. Looking back, Cyprus was an enjoyable trip. By the way, did you pass the test
Be good
