Hi former Royal Canadian or still serving Royal Canadian
As well as former NATO Veteran and still serving member of a NATO Force
Your e-mail address has come to our attention and we like to make you aware of our Organization. We are the only NATO Veterans Organization in Canada yes the only one in North America. We represent approximately 125.000 former members that have served in Germany with the Army Brigade and in France with the Air Force, later in the Bosnian area and of course now in Afghanistan
We are a bi-lingual group and made up of the 3 Services as all of them at one time were part of NATO at Sea, on the Ground or in the Air. These elements are in our crest with the 3 service colours on the shield with of course the Maple Leaf and the NATO Star. At this time we are 460 strong and growing daily
The Royals were in Germany from 1953-55 with the 2nd Bn and 1955-57 the 1st Bn. Canada was represented there prior to 1953 with the 27 Brigade and then the 1st Division with the Red Patch took over. You must remember NATO was formed on 4 April 1949 and will be celebrating their 60th Anniversary soon in two years
The reason, our aim, for us forming as an NATO Veterans Organization is for multiple reasons:
We like to be recognized that the NATO Group is the 3rd largest group of Armed Forces Canada ever had in History. WW II was the largest both in force of manpower and sorry to say in casualty’s. Next came WW I and after that is the NATO organization followed by Korea and Peace Keepers
We are never recognized and honoured of the 570 Military casualty’s that we buried in 44 Cemeteries in Europe since the Second World War and besides that the 926 Dependents that were laid to rest in these same cemeteries with little pomp and fanfares and were never returned to Canada and now in Afghanistan we lost 72 soldiers for a total of 1568 Canadians that were lost as part of NATO
That is why we are asking you to join us even with only 1 day service as pat of NATO. You do not have to have the SSM with NATO/OTAN bar to be eligible. We have made the form as easy as possible and our dues as light as $ 10.00 per year We have our own website and we hope you will visit it at
http://natoveterans.org and you will find a lot of your friends as part of the Members Page
The application form is both English and French so you can choose. About every 2 month we publish a News letter and in the latest you can see that the Legion is now including the NATO Flag as part of their colour party, A major battle we have fought and won but we are still fighting the recognition battle, and we are working hard on it
