Had the priviledge of talking to one of our training instructors ( on Home Leave for 4 months) this week at our planning session for Quan sang dinner in October. He showed us pictures on his Laptop taken by our army photog there while going into and during action activities. We were very impressed to say the least. He said that THE CANADIAN TROOPS THERE are the ENVY OF THE YANKS AND BRITISH FORCES. Everybody wants to work with the Canadians, Air Forces too. Our troops apparently are THE BEST EQUIPPED OF ALL FORCES THERE.He also stated that our troops over there think our PRIME MINISTER is 'GOD'. They just Love Him. Anything they want, they get . He said the new Leopard Tanks from Germany have arrived ( a few) but are huge and powerfull. and are doing the job they were planned for. I'm sure each of us have wondered just how much of a charge is in a ROADSIDE BOMB/ Well believe it or not , THERE is 240 POUNDS OF EXPLOSIVE IN EACH ONE they are presently using.
Our RCR INSTRUCTORS ( Sgt's mostly) are using three instructors to train one Afghanistani company. He says the men are learning fast and when they go into action with them, the Afghgani's do one hell of a good job and are raring to go.
You may recall I mentioned previously that we going to withdraw support troops from the front this fall. Well it is true. However when the news was put out it was not clarified by the issuers of the news as to how or what the reason was. While it is true, we no longer require some support troops in specif actions or areas and they are being withdrawn for other uses such as more instructors etc. they are not being disbanded at all.
They were supporting a number of Afghanistani troops, who now are supporting themselves. Our new men going over will NOT lose the support they need. Our guys there are doing one hell of a good job. They are discovering a lot of bombs before they get a chance to explode. Other forces are not so lucky in ther searches. This is fanatistic. Every Life Saved is a Miracle all in it'self. LETS WISH THEM ALL A REAL GOOD HUNTING TRIP. and to come home safe once again.
PRO PATRIA.

A ROYAL CANADIAN "NEVER PASSES A FAULT"

I am not pleased with this so called withdrawal, George. Mind you, I am of the opinion that we should have kept advancing to contact until Osama and his taliban brothers were dead or brought to justice. There is no doubt that we own the terrain once we move in force, the only thing lacking is the poilitical conviction of NATO and, yes, Iraq fixated America, to provide the troops required to hold the ground that we have taken.
Anyhow, we retreat, the bastards will only follow... perhaps as demonstrated yesterday when the lads were ambushed in a, or so we are told here in Canada, a relatively safe zone.
And ever cynical of politicians, George, I am concerned that this so called withdrawal is temporary in nature and politically motivated in order to move Quebec based troops into a passive posture during a looming election. I see no tactical advantage in allowing the beast to regain territory our brother in the Regiment have fought and died for and it would truly piss me off next spring if the lads the of the 3rd battalion have to fight Operation Medusa over again soley due to politicial necessity.
Troops are doing an excellent job, of this there can be no doubt. And thankfully, the support for their personal sacrifice and efforts remain strong throughout the nation. I see the new mine sweeping equipment is on the ground, hopefully, this will nullify or greatly reduce the threat into manageble dimensions.
How the hip holding up, George. Pops is still holding off.... Can't see him going for it anytime soon...

Hi Mike: Nice to hear from you again. Keep up the good work. To clarify the WITHDRAWL Mike, as I mentioned in my discussion with him,our Sgt Instructor who by the way goes back again for another tour in Jan/08, explained that this is not in a sense a withdrawl at all. We are pulling these out because they are no longer need where they are, and can be better used in other duties etc, in Afghanistan. When I first heard of I felt the same as you until I questioned him about it last week. He told me it is a very wise move and better use of current troops over there for everyone's benefit.
My Hip is absoluteyl WONDERFULL. Made a complete recovery with full mobility and am thrilled with it. Yes it is a somewhat difficult operation to deal with right after surgery but Social Services and other Hospital staff do a wonderfull job in assisting your complete recovery.
If I were your Dad, I would get it done as soon as possible becuase the longer you wait, the more your leg muscles ( Both legs) start to seize up from lack of use and makes recovery that much more difficult. I thought I had a problem with my hip after 3 months surgery. However I found out that I had thrown my back out and that caused my problem. Went to Chrypractor who fixed it. Terrific now.
Tell your Dad to get moving or he will severly regret it later when he cannot walk at ALL. Take my word for it, IT ONLY GETS WORSE, not better while you deter doing it.
