Dear Editor,
At first glance the ability of Police to stop a car with a phone call to On Star sounds like another break through in the battle against crime and may even save some lives when talking about high speed car chases.
But on second thought is the cure more dangerous then the disease?
Just how long do the Police and for that matter CSIS think it will take both the criminal and terrorist elements in the world to find a way to use this “Big Brother,” transportation function to find a way to stop the cars and trucks for their own purposes for either kidnapping or the robbery of fire arms, explosives, Money, chemicals and even radio active waste?
How long do the police really believe that the real organized car theft rings will take before they no longer need to break into a car?
No Canadian is dumb enough to trust the,”Our codes can’t be broken.” or the “nothing can go wrong,” apparent attitude of Police officials, to the suggested remote control of our cars, with or without our permission.
Having you car watched along with the ability to remotely located, unlock and even stop vehicles although it sounds great at first, could also be used to un-lock in order to plant bombs, watched to see where the car is located and detonated where it can do the most damage, never even placing the terrorist in danger nor giving away their location, well as long as they don’t have one of them new cars with On Star.
