Damn, I was thinking it was Denis as I think he spent his entire career being a storeman somewhere. Last heard, he was getting out in Deutchland and moving to Rastatt mit die frau..... Hell of a card player indeed....... Geeez, we had some good games on those trains, eh?

Mike, I’ll give you one of many train stories <grin>

Advanced party to gun-camp: we were heading up to gun-camp with the boys from the 8CH, and I and another 8CH Cpl were train security.  The train stopped to let the gravel and cattle cars pass <yawn>, and buds and I jumped off and did our thing.  We get back on the last car, which was the kitchen car; as we get aboard, we hear this hissing sound, and at first, we thought it was the train…then we both realize it’s coming from inside the kitchen car.  Well, my 8CH friend and I walk in, and are nosing around; when we find the source…it’s the gas (propane (I believe)) tanks.  We can smell the gas at this time, and the whole car is full of it.  The 8CH guy reaches over to turn off the gas, and I yell stop…to late…the whole car goes whoosh.   Well, next thing I know, Jack Gaudet, and a stream of others come flying into the car, and once Jacks see’s that I’m fine, he breaks out laughing…hysterical laughter I might add.  Turns out, buddy and I burnt all our eyebrows off, and singe the majority of our hair; no doubt we look funny.

Anyway, it turns out that what saved our sorry asses was two of the windows were broken, and the force of the ignition, blew out those windows.

Bottom line; we had a great gun camp, one hell of a story to tell, and Jack and I became very good friends.

Cheers,

Dave
P.S.  Boy oh boy, do I have a few good stories about Jack <smile>

P.S.S. The other fellows in the pic are:  Behind stores, Leo Sacary(?), Back to us, Kenny Miles, and (forget his first name) Robinson

Tim Robinson was my section commander in TQ-3. Really great guy actually. I was hurt during TQ-3 and twisted my ankle actually and ended hopping around on crutches for like a week or so and he really went to bat for me to stay in the platoon vice getting dumped into holding platoon and going into another platoon once off light duties. Come to think of my Battle School days he was not really the yelling type of NCO in comparison to some others. Didn't seem to be his style.

Kenny Miles I served with in Germany in O Company and he was my section commander before getting shuffled into Platoon HQ to be Lt. (Call me Shawn) Benoit signaller! LOL W/O Ben Dufresne and Kenny were pretty close. I guess they served time close together in the Airborne Regiment.

Previous poster about getting to know them is correct; especially with Kenny. You either were in his graces or not. I always had good times with Kenny and he loved to talk about current events in the news.
