Hi BJ

No we were on King William Island in a settlement named Gjoa Haven.

Gjoa Haven was dubbed "the finest little harbor in the world" by Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, and that probably explains why this inlet, nestled on the southeast coast of King William Island on the Northwest Passage, also became the namesake of the wooden ship that Amundsen sailed through the Northwest Passage between 1903-1905 - the Gjoa.

I received a name when I was there in 78, "Muktuk Jim meaning Whale Fat Jim".
To local residents, the community is called Uqsuaqtuuq, "the place of plenty of fat," a reference to the fattened fish in the nearby waters.

It hard to see the faces in the picture but would the 1st on the left be Reg Dugay?
Was this picture from a Ex. Recce for the Northern Viking Ex. we were on in Apr., 1979 in Gjoa Haven?

Roger Gjoa Haven I have spent time there when I was posted to Northern Region. Great Nic name. I was given the name Nanuck when I was on Baffin. I was due to the hairy arms and fingers I have.
