Herofund.ca launches website to raise money for the post-secondary education of children who have had a parent killed while serving in Afghanistan with the Canadian Military
TORONTO, Aug. 10 /CNW/ - Herofund.ca, a non-profit and non-political organization dedicated to assisting the families of Canadian Forces Personnel, launched a website (www.herofund.ca) yesterday to raise money to help fund the post-secondary education of children who have had a parent killed fighting for Canada. Founded by students at the University of Toronto, the group is seeking to collect over one hundred thousand signatures in order to petition the Canadian Parliament to pass a bill that would allocate funds for this initiative. The group is additionally pursuing alternative means of achieving its goal, such as the creation of scholarships for the children of military families sponsored by major Canadian universities. The group is also in the process of accumulating funds through private and corporate donations.
