The team at HeroFund.ca (largely a collective of University of Toronto students) has launched an initiative to raise funds for post secondary scholarships for the children of soldiers who have been killed in Afghanistan.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM NEWSWIRE.CA:

Attention News Editors:

Herofund.ca launches website to raise money for the post-secondary education of children who have had a parent killed while serving in Afghanistan with the Canadian Military

    TORONTO, Aug. 10 /CNW/ - Herofund.ca, a non-profit and non-political
organization dedicated to assisting the families of Canadian Forces Personnel,
launched a website (www.herofund.ca) yesterday to raise money to help fund the
post-secondary education of children who have had a parent killed fighting for
Canada.
Founded by students at the University of Toronto, the group is seeking to
collect over one hundred thousand signatures in order to petition the Canadian
Parliament to pass a bill that would allocate funds for this initiative.
The group is additionally pursuing alternative means of achieving its
goal, such as the creation of scholarships for the children of military
families sponsored by major Canadian universities. The group is also in the
process of accumulating funds through private and corporate donations.

Members of the Regiment should also keep in mind that Regimental Headquarters, following a request by the family of Cpl Brent Poland, is currently managing The RCR Education Fund for Children of Fallen Soldiers.
