Looking for some of the RCR Buddies

My daughter sent this to me to read and wonder if I approved of it, and if I would put it on the RCR Association Board. I did read it, there was some parts that moved me, hopefully it will move everybody else. When I sent ithis out and please let me know what everybody thinks.
So here goes. Oh there is one thing that I don't agree is the the color "Red". I do like the yellow ribbon to support our troops, in matter of fact I have one on my car. Let's keep the color yellow. Of course that is my opinion. So let me know what you think, Tom Gottlieb
Red Fridays. What are Red Fridays?
Last week, while travelling in Canada on a business trip, I noticed a canadian soldier travelling with a folded flag, but did not puy two-and-two together.
After we boarded our flight, I turn to the soldier, who has been invited to sit in the first class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.
No, He responded.
Heading out, I asked?
No. I am escorting a soldier home.
Going to pick him up, I asked?
No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Afghanistan.
I am taking him home to his family.
The realization of what he had been asked to do, hit me like a punch in the stomach.
It was an honour for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had deliivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so many days.
I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do.
Upon landing in Canada, the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honour of having Sgt. Steeley of the Canadian Armed Forces join on this flight.
He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family.
I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sgt. Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt light.
Without a sound, all was requested.
I noticed the Sargeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be Canadian.
So here is a public "Thank You to Our Military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do".
'Red Fridays'
Very soon, you will see a great many candians wearing Red every Friday.
The reason, Canadians who support our troops used to be called "Silent Majority"
We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers.
We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.
Many Canadians, like you, me and all our families, friends, simply want to me recognize, that the vast majority of Canada supports our troops.
Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday - and continues each and every Friday until all the troops come home, sending a deafing message that every Canadian who supports our men and women afar, by wearing something Red. It could be just a small
ribbon.
By word of mouth, by every type of media (TV, Radio, Newspapers and Internet) Let's make Canada on every Friday a sea of red.
If everyone of us, who loves this country, will share this with our friends, co-workers and our famlies.
It would not be long before Canada is covered in red and it would let our troops know that once "silent"
majority is on their side more then ever, certainly more then the media lets on.
The first thing that any Candian Soldier says when asked, "What can we do to make things better for you?" is "We need your support and your prayers. "
So let's get out there and let the word and lead with class and dignity, by example and wear Red evey
Friday.

Well, a really nice letter from your daughter.. and we all know that is what our soldiers ask, and all they ask of us .. is to support them , and remember them in their prayers...Cdns , have been doing that , more and more are doing that, and the contents of her letter bring that home very poignantly...it only takes a pittance of our time... a pittance in comparison....and i dont see our support dropping any time soon....thank you soldiers for all that you do.. it is much beyond the mere call of duty , and you do it so well....ranrad

Hi guys,
This reminds me of something that happened to me in June. I had stopped at a service center on the 401 and ate some MacDonalds. I was wearing a support our troops t-shirt at the time. A man, his wife and teen daughter were across from me. As I got up to leave the man asked me if I was in the Army. I told him I used to be but wasnt any more. He looked me in the eye and said; "Well I just want to personally thank you for what you did and for what the people in the Army are doing for us today, thank you very much." Ya know this came right of the blue and I kinda got choked up but did manage a somewhat feeble thank you and it means a lot to me reply before I had to turn away and leave. You know what? Canadians do care. They care very much.

Wonderful message. I do wear red every Friday and have for some time now. I live in a small farm community and I noticed that young and old alike honour our troops by wearing red on Fridays

I really do beleive Canadians do care about our soldiers. And we should wave our flag poudly and more often. Thanks Ron
