A Medic and a Royal Canadian

By: Robert S. Berry, Huntsville ON

When I read the Regimental Adjutant's column about each Royal Canadian writing one thousand words, I thought, "that makes sense", and forgot about it for a few days. Later I thought that I was something that not too many others are, or were, whatever. I can hear someone in the background saying, "what is he talking about?"

First, I was a member of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, a jumping medic no less, who served with two battalions of The RCR, jumped with the same two Bns, and am a member of The RCR Association. Therefore I am also a Royal Canadian in the accepted sense.

Read the rest here. (LINK)

Excellant. Great to hear that another soldier has spent some great times with The Regiment. It's great to read words like this from personnel from other Units and trades, it proves we are still doing things right and that Respect and Pride are still very near and dear to us as Royals.

Robert Berry was contacted by a number of old friends after his story was posted, and they all wanted to see him add The Rockingham Gaffe.  See it here.

To Gerry Connors-- Thanks for the kind words. No honour in serving with me. I joined up as a job, everything else was incidental. Now, Gen Rockingham, he was really something else, but it seems to me, above all, a gentleman.

To Mike Blais-- If you can find a copy of "100 years-- The Royal Canadian Regiment", you'll find me on Page 138, all 6'4 and 170 lbs. As well in-- "Korea: Canada's Forgotten War" by John  Melady, you'll find two shots of Gen Rockingham in the photo section following page 24, Photos 5 and 6.

A Medic and a Royal Canadian.  Thanks Robert S Berry, for your heart warming story and sharing this facinating experience with the regiment.  Your a gentleman and should consider joining the Regiment as we celebrate our 125, Reuion in Kingston, Ontario August 1,2,3, 2008.  Pro Patria.

To: Ranrad;  I have been trying to locate another excellent book on "my" war, finally did locate my copy in possession of my elder son.  If you enjoyed John Melady's book, you'll enjoy this one too. "Deadlock in Korea" by Ted Barris.   I do know that it is out of print, so maybe a library would be a good place to start. My local bookstore tried to locate another copy for me w/o success over two weeks.
