OK...how many fellows can say they went to Germany on a ship.
In 1955 the battalion loaded up by train in London and proceeded to Quebec to board the Queen Frederica for a 7 day cruise to Germany. I don't recall if there were any civilians on board, but I do recall we had to mount a Fire Picket and tour the ship each night. On this cruise, no civilian cloths were allowed....only properly dressed in uniform. However, on the cruise back in 1957 on the Arosa Sun, which took 11 days, civilian cloths were allowed as we were a mixed group......like civilians and military?
Have a pic of the Arosa Sun which I will post later.

Both ships were Cunard Line.

Excellent photos, Jim, particularly considering the change in times and the speed with which we all now zoom around the world.
I am curious. What was the daily routine like aboard ship? Did they have a mess aboard? Families? Must have been very neat experience.

Hi Mike
They had the same daily routine as the cruise ships have today. I have the occasion of taking two cruises since my trip over to Germany. If you had the same occasion you would be on leave on the ocean.
No they didn't have a mess aboard, all the bars were open. They treated all the patrons the same. I didn't have a family and I was happy that I didn't. I hooked up with a stewardess and let her go after I spent a year and half in Germany. Her name was Jacqueline Van Lintel of 48 Yacht Haven Weg. She lived on a harbour boat. She was 10 years older than me Maaaaannnn. What a story!!!!!!!!!
This made it a very "neat experience". 18 yrs old, and not a care in the world.
Jim
I went to Amsterdam every chance I had. She took leave and we went to Italy once!!! aaaaaahhhhhhh
