What a sad day this was.  My wife was the duty nurse in the Petawawa MIR and it bothers her to this very day, almost 40 years later.  Her job, and that of the investigators and Board of Inquiry, was made all the more difficult by the lack of a correct flight manifest.  There were some people on the jump who weren't listed and identification of the deceased was a fiasco until someone finally owned up.

Dave Jannison, Sonnenberg,Ralph Brennan, Smith, Bruce Chiswell,Tommy Cook, Brian Howe. when that pic was taken I was with the Bn Small Arms team out on the range, I was standing with Shag Shaugnessy and the two Wyonch brothers and could see the exits from the plane. What a disaster when we found what happened on return to camp that evening.

I was in the RCR Kit Shop in London yesterday and who walked in but Brian Howe. I mentioned this pic to him and he told me he was jump master for that jump and changed places with Chiswell in the order of jump for some reason. He also mentioned that he was really concerned for Sonnenburg because of his large family. Sonny made it but Bruce didnt. A real tragedy for all those lost. Brian also mentioned that Al Collar was coming down to visit this month and then they were going fishing. Havent seen Al for years. Apparently he"s alive and well and living in the Sault...Pro Patria.
