Hi all, just passing this info along.. a new organization called Veterans of Canada.. Free lifetime membership for all Cdn Military, police, fire service etc.. find it at http://www.veteransofcanada.ca it was located on the Veteran Voice site and appears to be a dandy. May help us keep /have a top watchdog as pertains to veterans in Canada. Hope all will check it out...ranrad

I read the info about vetrans of Canada on there site ,and have also joined.I am presently in a position were I could possibly help the cause. I have been thinking of ways I could possibly help these injured soldiers coming home from conflict zones ,and of course the soldiers who are injured period and have too retire.I personaly found the transition very difficult.I had no brotherhood to rely on ,and felt like I was on another planet at times.I think vetrans of Canada would be an excellent extention of that kind of support over time.thanks for posting the message on our association board.Much appreciate it. Charlie

Sea of red as Toronto rallies in support of troops

Sharing a stage with the Minister of Defence, the head of the Canadian Forces and Don Cherry, wounded soldier Jody Mitic looked out at a boisterous crowd of people gathered for a Toronto rally in support of troops in Afghanistan and noted how times have changed.
"When [I] first joined in the mid-nineties, military and army were bad words," said the 30-year-old Master Corporal from Brampton, Ont., who stepped on a land mine in the Panjwaii district and now wears artificial legs. "But now, everyone is supporting us. Makes it worth it, losing my legs and all."
The military estimated that 4,000 people attended the Red Friday Rally, held in the Canadian Forces display, at the Canadian National Exhibition Friday and included addresses from Chief of Defence Staff General Rick Hillier, Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair and Defence Minister Peter MacKay, who said "we are doing this mission because Canadians care."

"It is not my job, nor my responsibility, to articulate why we do certain missions but let me just tell you, as soldiers, we have to believe that there's a nugget of a mission before we will go out and do it," said Gen. Hillier. "Before we go on a mission where we risk life and limb, as our soldiers do every single day, we have to believe in the mission."
Hockey personality Don Cherry, who wore a red jacket, acknowledged that not everyone agrees with the war, "but when our troops are over there, we have to support them," he said.
The Red Friday campaign started in April, 2006, to show support for the Canadian Forces. It encourages Canadians to wear a red article of clothing on Fridays to represent the blood that has been shed by soldiers. Since then, dozens of rallies have been held across the country.
Friday's rally comes at the end of a deadly week for the Canadian mission. On Sunday, Pte. Simon Longtin was killed and on Wednesday, Master Warrant Officer Mario Mercier and Master Cpl. Christian Duchesne died when their armoured vehicle hit a roadside bomb. All three soldiers were based in Valcartier, Que.
Friday, Mr. MacKay talked about the difference the Canadian military is already making in Afghanistan: boys and girls are able to go to school, women can work.
"The rally today means so much to our troops, it means so much to the men and women who are working hard to protect us, to safeguard our freedoms and the lives of the people in Afghanistan and those who want to live in an open and free country like ours," he said.
Mr. MacKay then asked the crowd to cheer for the troops and pose for a photo that would be transmitted to Afghanistan. The crowd responded enthusiastically.
Gen. Hillier said rallies prove to soldiers that Canadians are with them on the mission. He noted that it also supports military families who, unlike soldiers, are not volunteers and shoulder a different burden. Off stage, Gen. Hillier said the military is recruiting new members in record numbers, and said more young people from urban centres are signing up.
Eight-year-old Aidan Brucas, from Whitby, Ont., did not know what to say when he was asked if he wanted to be a soldier when he grows up. His mom, Nancy, said he is a fan of the army and when he heard that there was going to be a rally at the CNE, proclaimed: "I have to wear red!" So the whole family donned red shirts in honour of the troops.
The military said about 7,000 had visited the military display, that included a recruitment tent, by rally time. Adults and children were invited to walk a step in a soldier's boots and try on military garb. Master Seaman Graham Mason, with the 2 Service Battalion, Supply Company, CFB Petawawa, said a fragmentation vest, a tactical load vest and a helmet weigh in total about 70 pounds. A rucksack outfitted for summer weighs an additional 60 pounds. "A lot of people are very surprised at the weight we have to carry," he said.

"Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001? Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan , across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania ? Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they? And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was "desecrated" when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet?...Well, I don't. I don't care at all.
I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.
I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia .
I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat
I'll care when the cowardly so-called "insurgents" in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.
I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.
I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.
In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.
When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident, rest assured: I don't care.
When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank: I don't care.
When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed "special" food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being "mishandled," you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts: I don't care.
And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled "Koran" and other times "Quran." Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and -you guessed it -I don't care ! ! ! !
If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your e-mail friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior!
If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don't complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great country!
And may I add:
In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England 's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America , he said:"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in, and how many want out."

Well Donald, while i can understand this womans feelings and reasons for her obvious hatred, i am not a believer that going into battle with hatred will ever get the job done... it causes too much cloudiness in ones thinking, and may even get people killed needlessly... but i must agree with many of her observations, and that WE all have to use clear thinking in order to defeat the enemy of all mankind... i mean, after all ,that these insurgents do not care who they kill.. they kill Muslims as quick as us Infidels... so where is their THINKING when they curse the infidels??? This is nothing more than a bunch of bloodthirsty killers that need to be brought to ground...religion means NOTHING to them , beliefs meanb nothing to them.. it is all about POWER...ranrad

A group of Canadians were traveling by tour bus through Holland.As they stopped at a cheese farm, a young guide led them through the process of cheese making, explaining that goat's milk was used.
She showed the group a lively hillside where many goats were grazing.
"These," she explained, "are the older goats put out to pasture when they no longer produce."
