Hi Rick & Jim Had a lot of training in hiding.I never got nicknamed, but when nobody was around,my driver in hvy. mortars always called me boss (Chief HoWARD).Always had a bottle or two of Dujardin in my mark v.and when we were tactical and cold at night, one of us had to be on the sets.I would say to chief, wouldn,t a good shot go good now.I swear,I could see the grin, and the glow of his eyes in the dark.Had to watch he didn,t get pissed on me,as I did lose him on one exercise.First night before we even got started,he got pissed and fell out the back of the 3/4 during the night and broke his friggin leg.Never seen him till Fort York, with a big grin and a broken leg .Great Royal as were many others mentioned with nicknames. Al

Hi Al
That was a great story. You know the troops don't tell stories anymore (so sad). You might as well carry on and tell another one!!

Another great story about the Cheif. He got pissed in the wet canteen that was behind the driil hall in Ipperwash in 1961. Squirrel Brunette came up with the idea of carrying the cheif who was out of it down to the burial grounds in the back 40. About ten of lugged him down, laid him on the ground on top of the mound and returned for another drink. The chief showed up just before last call and was not amused.lol

Sorry about the goof Jim,hit the wrong button and deleted the whole message (eyesight ) but here goes, one little story. One hot day mid 50,s,while playing silly bugger all day ( pl.in the attack) A young new pl. comd then whom I believe was Art Skaling ordered more fire from his section on the flank. The tired, and slightly pissed off sec.comd.(ME),immediately complied by yelling at the top of his lungs.RIGHT SIR,A RAT TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT and a RAT TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT.Where upon you could of heard a pin drop Mission accomplished.Boots Tribble (R.I.P.) related this story to Vic Arsenault at 2002 reunion when we were telling old pasts. We were D Coy,and John Church or Dave Rennie was Pl Sarge. Cheers Al P.S. Art Skaling was a good officer

Hi Al
I served for Dan Loomis in Germany and I know you were taking a big chance. Loomis came back as CO (LCol) and it was time for Cyprus in 1970. I was a M/Cpl and was given the task of going to the guardroom to get one of my buds (no names) from the Linecrew and sign him out for the day and take him back at days end. The first day day of his sentence we agreed to spend a little time in Sigs house and enjoy some time talking as we were sitting at the bar and sipping on a drink of coke. All of the guys from Sigs had gone to the movies. All of sudden he mussed up his hair and quickly removed his glasses and said to me "oooh it's the CO". Well I quickly turned around to meet him (CO). He said "Good day M/Cpl, I'm just out for a walk". I see you and your friend are enjoying the day's end". I said with a tone of someone in charge "Yes Sir would you care for a drink"? He accepted and the (no name) who was sitting in the high chair on the other side (bartender's) poured the CO a drink of scotch. He said cheers and slowly drank it up. Then he said "I better get going" and with that I got up and I walked him to the front entrance. When we got to the front entrance I was thinking "I got away with that one" when he said "I think you better get (no name) back to the guardroom" and left. lolololololololololololol I can laugh now but I too was taking a big chance. I too was without a CD. It took me an extra 3 yrs to qualify. lolololol
