While researching the statistics as noted above, I pulled out a shet from one of my files which shows what the Freedoms are and how they were gained. The one that stands out the most is THE FIRST ONE; QUOTE; IT IS THE SOLDIER, NOT THE REPORTER, WHO GAVE US THE FREEDOM OF THE PRESS. iT IS THE SOLDIER, NOT THE POET, WHO GAVE US FREEDOM OF SPEECH. IT IS THE SOLDIER, NOT THE CAMPUS ORGANIZER, WHO GAVE US THE FREEDOM TO DEMONSTRATE. IT IS THE SOLDIER, NOT THE LAWYER, WHO GAVE US THE RIGHT TO A FREE TRIAL. IT IS THE SOLDIER WHO SALUTES THE FLAG, WHO SERVES UNDER THE FLAG, AND WHOS COFFIN IS DRAPED BY THE , WHO ALLOWS THE PROTESTER TO BURN THAT FLAG.
Having such ammo as this is an excellent reason why EVERYBODY in UNIFORM SHOULD WRITE TO EVERY NEWSPAPRE, TV AND RADIO station, reminding them who they owe their freedoms to. Pro Patria

I hope you don't mind but I added to it a bit. ***************************************
Something’s that Canadians and Ottawa should remember.
It is the Soldier, not the Reporters, who fought for and now maintain freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the Teacher, who achieved freedom of thought.
It is the Soldier, not the Poet, who gave us freedom of expression.
It is the Soldier, not the Politician, who maintains freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the Government, who insure the freedom to vote.
It is the soldier, not the Priest, who protects freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the special interest groups, who protects their right to demonstrate.
And it is the Soldier who salutes the Flag, who serves under the Flag and whose coffin is draped by that Flag, who allows for protesters the freedom to burn that very same Flag, Reporters to bitch about that Flag and even Governments to wave the Flag, while they lie to the people under it during elections.
And yet it is also the Soldier, the Vet, who is first and quickly forgotten, when times are good, only to be remembered again when these very freedoms are once again in danger.
OTTAWA DO SOMETHING ABOUT CFB GAGATOWN. These Soldiers did their part for Canada’s freedoms.
Do something for the living Veterans for a change, not just the dead.

I agree Ken, 100%... i guess if we are alive we are to consider that enough??? Maybe it is , in a way...bot , i must say i personally feel totally let down by Vet Aff and of course the Gov, who on one hand say they can not interfere, and on the other hand DO interfere when it is for THEIR benefit.....sad, amd maybe one day ,the gov will go once too often to ask the soldier to go over the top... and there will be no soldiers left.....ranrad

Let me tell you about my dealings with Veterans Affairs. My dad was a second world war veteran needed a wheelchair I went to veteran affairs. On his behalf, I explained the situation to them and all I got was a hard time. Some young whippersnapper Who has never seen service in the Armed Forces informed me that we would have to wait at least three months for a wheelchair. I was so frustrated that when I stood up the chair I was sitting on went flying across the room. And if it hadn’t been for my wife I think that whippersnapper would have been across the room with the chair. I left there and went to the Legion and had a wheelchair in less than an hour. That was my first and last dealings with Veterans Affairs.

Way to go Guys. Young Ken- your additions are excellent and I like them, however the originals as written were intended to make people remenber HOW THEY GOT THEIR FREEDOMS. I agree that as you mention in your additons it is these EXTRA hands who help to maintain the original results of these freedoms.
Ran rad you are so right once again. While I have solved all my problems with VAC and get my pension PLUS extras when needed, I had trouble originally too with the Old DVA after the war ended and I came home. Your right , it can be very very frustrating. On top of that we have a lot of people from India working in civil service too, especially welfare and unemployment offices who lookd down their nosses at Canadian civilians for benefits.
Anyway , Thanks to you both.
