   estimated infantry soliers who )
survived  out of the 34 (above  )        06

As previously mentuioned, I would pass on the Casualty results of the Army for WW 2.
All of the above figures are taken from DND figures available through the Canadian War Museum- Ottawa.

Unfortunately the Normandy figures are not broken down as to specifs such as # wounded and POW's. However, to compare both theatres it can done by adding the Wounded and Pow's of Sicily / Italy together.
You will see why I think and feel that ! st.Corps has been overlooked long enough, and should be recognized now for the FUTURE GENERATIONS HISTORiCAL benefit. If it is not accomplishe before we all die off, it will probably never be recognized.
I may also suggest to each of you who have serves since WW 2 that unless you do the same for your service period, all of your work , pain and suffering will have been for nothing in future history.
If we are proud of what we accomplished in the service, we have to yell to the country to make them understand Thay do NOT have a clue what it is all about.

Well said George and thanks for the great info. Shows without a doubt the historic importance of the Sicily /Italy campaigns. And the note about post WW 2 facts and stories is also important. We, as Cdns tend to brush aside our accomplishments, and usually it is to our own discredit. I hope all will read your thread and get to work on writing down what they have experienced / done over their service careers. Actually ,it is amazing when one gets it down on a piece of paper. Thanks George..ranrad

Thanks Mike. Yes I am aware of that . It is the annual meeting of the POW's  assoc. they ave been meeting for many years.  I have never bothered to join the assoc. because I wasw always away travelling at work ntil I retired and it is a six hour drive (one way) from Windsor. While I do not consider myself old by any means (only 84 now) I do find that long drives arevery tiring when not used to it. If I had been able to go ,I would have several years ago. thanks for the heads up anyway.

Thanks ranrad for those kind words. Very much appreciated.
I put them together so that anyone who may contact someone in the Canadian Media ( Papers< Magazines, radio, TV. etc.would have the facts to back up an argument with them about ' FREEDOM OF THE PRESS  which they continually espout is their right. However, they seem to forget  that THE FREEDOM OF THE PRESS is only availabale  because  'IT IS THE SOLDIER WHO CREATES  THE FREEDOM OF THE PRESS'

Well, very well said again George and it seems many DO forget that their freedoms to live so well, have come at the cost to our brothers and sisters....it seems strange how we forget as time goes by, when the enormity of the sacrifices can never be forgotten... perhaps it is partly from the loss to individual families, which of course in both World Wars, affected pretty much everyones family in some close way...thanks for the reminder to all   ranrad

Well said George and I agree with ranrad people do forget that their freedom to live in this country so well, have come at the cost of others so when they forget we can remind him with this.

Only two people have ever offered to die for you. One was Jesus Christ and the other is the Canadian Soldier. One died for your soul, the other died for your freedom."

Please remember our troops and their families need our help and support. Thank every veteran and person in uniform that you come across for their service to our country and their guarantee that our families and theirs can continue to live their lives in Freedom.

God Bless Our Troops!

Hi Jim you look sharp with that stick under your arm.  The last time I seen you was in Germany.
Sorry to hear about your heart attack hope your mobile and doing well. Here’s something I’ve been fooling around with
I’ve written and rewritten its still not the way I want.  It’s called their soldiers

They are soldiers.

They are soldiers in the Canadian Army. And are trained to be all they can be.

They fight for the freedom of many citizens of Canada. And are ready to meet there fate.

They all volunteer to defend not only the flag, but the citizens of our great country.

Since our country's birth for all these years, they have been trained to be the best on Earth.

Many times are country have went to war. We will be involved in many more.

Generation by generation soldiers continue to enlist. Some of them will go to war and definitely be missed.

Some soldiers will return and some won't. Those who do not, we won't forget and we hope you don't.

Many of them are going to Afghanistan. Some won't be coming back.

They have loved ones they are leaving behind. And will always be in there prayers, hearts and mind.

If they don't make it home safely at the end of the war, just remember they died for your freedom.

Hi Jesse

Hey I like it! They are soldiers! If you can't put it together, no one will. Pro Patria

Jim

PS It wasn't a heart attack, it was a stroke and I'm fighting back. My wife was in BC and I was alone when it struck. I laid on the floor for nearly 10 hrs. My friend Joe called and I heard the phone ring. Don't ask me how I heard it. I picked it up and then I found out I couldn't talk. Joe said he would phone back and he did. I made a noise mmmm  mmmm and I heard him say "I'll call 911". With that I laid back down and passed out again. It was 2 weeks before I remember anything. I stayed in the hospital from 29 Apr to 1 Jul 2004. On Sep 1st I went to Calgary for a month. I can't use my right arm and I have real trouble speaking. I have trouble walking as well, but you know something I'm alive. Pro Patria.
