A ROYAL CANADIAN "NEVER PASSES A FAULT"
|
Ed Duffney, to whom I am certain a majority of us know, has a new project on hand. Be nice were they add a Regimental flag to the equation, in honour of London's long and distinguished partnership with The Royal Canadian Regiment. For those living in London, a brief email to one of the city coucillors may be in order, their addresses are on the city site.

Ex-soldier wants flags flown along vets parkway PATRIOTISM: The city is being asked to allow national and provincial banners By RANDY RICHMOND
Fresh from one flag flap, city politicians are being asked to consider waving a few more.
These flags, however, symbolize a little less controversy.
Retired master corporal Edward Duffney would like city hall to allow the flags of all 10 provinces and three territories to be flown along Veterans Memorial Parkway.
"It would be a great thing for the city to welcome people," Duffney, 72, said yesterday. "It would also be a great way for people to learn about our country."
With donations from businesses and city agencies, the flags along a major city gateway wouldn't cost taxpayers a cent, he said.
At the base of each pole could be the date the province joined Canada or the date the territory was formed. On Canada Day, the flags could be flown in the same sequence as the provinces joined Confederation, he suggested.
"The city could be famous for this."
Duffney would like to fly the Canadian flag for patriotism, the Union Jack for heritage sake and the U.S. flag -- just to be friendly.
"They are our neighbours."
Duffney has a long background in heritage.
Before retiring in 1992 after 35 years of military service, he worked at the Royal Canadian Regiment museum.
He still helps organize the annual Canada Day parade at Wolseley Barracks and makes sure the flags of provinces and territories are proudly flown.
In 2005, he organized a 12-day Canada Day celebration at the Duchess of Kent Legion, honouring the provinces and territories.
Duffney's proposal is to come before the city's environment and transportation committee today.
"Another flag flap," committee chair Cheryl Miller joked yesterday.
Just last week, council approved a controversial policy to limit the kinds of flags that may fly from city hall.
But Miller welcomed Duffney's plan in principle.
"I think this is a great idea," Miller said. "There is nobody who values our flags more than the veterans who fought under them."
Duffney already has the backing of London Fanshawe MP Irene Mathyssen.
The flags would "further honour our veterans and show London's appreciation for their sacrifice," Mathyssen wrote in a letter to the city committee. The flags would also "provide a vibrant and warm welcome to visitors to London," she wrote.

Very good to see, and glad to hear old Ed hasn't stopped his flag waving ways in his retirement. Mike can you, or anyone for that matter, tell me what road in London has been changed to Veterans Parkway? Or is it a new Road? Thanks.

The Beard came with Retirement
|
Hi Guys;
It is in the east end of London, just west of the airport and runs from Oxford Street to the 401. I've forgotten the date it opened, but at first it was Highway 100, which was changed to Airport Road, which was changed to Veterans Memorial Parkway.
Cheers
Mark
