It kind of browns me off whenI read this message board sometimes and see all the cool nick names etc. people use and the next message you read is some one looking for and old friend.Using cool sounding code names is ok if your on the kiddy porne site or if you 12 yrs old and trying to impress your girl friend,How ever for people like me that scan this board  looking for old names [and God knows even when I see the name I have a hell of a time putting a face to it ,right Ernie] and all I see is some damn gibberish that looks like 'Killer Kane's" nominal roll it drives me nuts. So nowI feel better and I'm going to have a beer

Although I am ok with nicknames and have, snicker, earned a couple myself, it does bug me when I'm scrolling through the e-mail registry and I havent a bloody clue who's who.

If I may, perhaps we would be better served were, for registry purposes, to include the members full name. And,  to avoid confusion when observing multiple entries,  the date and location of service to The Regiment.

Reply to Mike:  Damn right that every correspondent should use his own name.  There is too much mystery with all these nicknames.  If you use your own name or your well known army nickname you will be recognised.   There is too much of these cute and coded "007 and James Bond" nicknames which no one recognizes.

And having said all of that, who can tell me the name and rank of "007" in 1st Battalion,
1962-1965?

Willy the best part of that story is Andy McIntyre stalled it Maj Bud said "GET OUT". We all could hear it and poor Andy got out and waded through the water. Maj Bud drove the jeep out himself. We were sitting on a rise about 100 yds away.

You were so RIGHT Jim, when you named Maj Bud Taylor as 007.  James Bond, codenamed 007 was one of the popular heroes of the day in the battalion.  007 was a nickname of admiration which so many of them were not.  The thread took a different route remembering mudholes and stuck vehicles but that is what it is all about.  All the best to all the guys who replied.  RT

(My name in 1st Battalion was RT to most people, family and friends tended to call me Bob)

Well, I think a part of the problem may be in the initial joining as a member.  The sign-up forum asks us to choose a user name, and often on many other sites, they recommend that you don't use your real name, so you don't become a target of some scheme or something.
Where this is a community site, and a friendly on at that, the RCR who stumbles on it after a quick glance, may sign up right away, using a coded name, and not realize that they may appear virtually invisible to those they might be hoping to find on the site.
Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a way to change your user name, apart from deleting your account, and starting up again.
Now the Signature blocks are a good place to out your name if you like, and if you're not entirely comfortable with that, Initials and a Last Name would be just like flipping through the phone book, where most who knew you, would be able to identify you, and thous who didn't would only get your initials and last name.

Actually, if you go into your Profile and click Profile Forum Setting on the left of the screen, you can add your name to the custom text field, and that will appear right under your user name in the forums.  Have a look at my photo and user name to the left.  I placed the word "Corporal" in the Custom Text Field in my profile and it's right there too. Hope that helps.
