The thing I remember the most about RV 85 was the Catipillars cooking on the engine of the grizzly what a stink.

Yes Ran but the leaves arn't out or they have all been eaten by the hordes and I mean hordes of catipillars.
We would pull into a cops of trees for cover and the carrier top would be crawling with them. You would walk on the carrier and be sliding in them

Hehehe.. be a bit of a bother if they got in ones clothes etc....ranrad

On second thought this picture was taken during RV 87, the creepy crawlies were at RV 85, I remember living in the old bell tents. The outsides of the tents were just crawling with caterpillers.

Hey Geoff, was the pic before the leaves were out or after the caterpillar horde? I remember RV87 being the grass-hopper infestation; though RV92 didn't beleive we had any infestation

aaahhh memories. Beautiful wainright. Wide open fields and beautiful little furry creatures. This is wainright isn't it? Those little bastards were everywhere. Rv 87 was my last RV with the BTN. before remustering. What RV were the grasshoppers at? But those catipillars. Remember the Beer strike during RV 85? We had to drink Black Label. Better than nothing. Or was it RV 87? Can't remember. Do they still have RV's every year?

Hey Dennis; no more RV's, last I beleive was '92 (I was with 119 Air Defence Battery as Bty medic in Chatham). I remember the beer strike: started out west while we were at RV; by the time we got back to London, strike had hit there too; by the time I went home to the Rock on summer leave, srike had hit out east: spent most of the spring & summer drinking yank beer!

Well, i understand those furry litle b*****s would be a real pest .. but i would take them over rats anyday, anyone out there done a tour in the Golan??? Then you know of what i speak... black rats everywhere.....ugh.. likely killed a million of them myself....cooks and supply techs killed miilions more....and they were still as many....but they didnt like cats.. against the rules we used cats in the food supply bldgs and the rats left the bldgs.....anyone have recollections of the rats of the Golan?? Remember the old painting in the A Line Mess, of the rats being forced over a cliff... looked like a herd of buffalo going aver, and still there were rats.. i will likely never forget those critters.........ranrad

you guys and the caterpillars, the other day i was going through some old things and came across an old map(1/50:000) and unfolding it i found a fossil of one of those little furry caterpillars. No Shit guys it's in the basement right now ,the map i mean! I remember those little pests and guys drawing a line at the entrance to the tents calling the caterpillars on to cross the line and then lighting them up with a can of insect repellent and a bic. Those little pests would repell from the tent tops. It Was RV 85 i was in Charles coy at the time 9 platoon. I also remember that we had an ozzie cpl. attatched to us Kevin Ryan was his name. Big Bird (WO Morris) went to oz in his replacement. Merry X-mas Y'all
