I was in Gagetown in 1971 for Ex Running Jump from 7th.of Sept until 16th.of Oct of the same year. I was also there to complete an Advanced Surveillance Equipment Operators Course in or around Sept 1972. On one of these occasions I and my team did, as part of our orders, a night patrol through cut down dead trees, which were covered with dust and nothing much else. As I recall there was much dust, a very dark night and before long we were trying to get the bad taste and dust out of our mouths. There wasn’t mush of anything besides dust for the vegetation was non existent. The night was filled with cuts, bruises and swallowing dust as we slowly crawled over, under and through the dead fall, but we did emerge in the morning looking like dust bunnies. Two eyes and dust was all that anyone could see.

In 1974 Sept I became very ill and was not expected to live as I dropped to a mere 60 lbs. No need to say I didn’t die back then but have continued to have medical problems ever sense.

I have now learned that we were probably subjected to Agent Orange and due to the dates I would dare say Agent Orange II better known as SUPPER ORANGE.

The reason that I am looking for Recce Platoon 1 RCR is to see how the rest are doing and to inform them that they may have the same problems or at least this could explain some of their concerns.

Hi Recce Platoon 1RCR,

I am looking for any members of Recce Platoon who were with 1RCR during exercise “Running Jump II”, in CFB Gagetown and surrounding area in 1971. I need some input into the night that we were sent through the Defoliated, deadfall while on that posting.

Please if you have any information contact me at Kentar@telus.net or post a message here.
Thank you in advance.

Kenneth H. Young.
