I regret to report the passing of Jim Maier in Innisfail, Alberta on 29 October 2005. Jim served in the Essex Scottish at Dieppe and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for knocking out a machinegun nest and a sniper with a Boyes Antitank rifle after he had been wounded two times. Jim served with The Regiment from 1950 until his retirement. He had been the President of the Col. Corbould Branch of the Association from it's insception until his death. Pro Patria, Hugh Conway

Jim was a fine man and a professional soldier,it was many years after first meeting him that I realised what he had done at Dieppe. The regimental family has most certainly suffered a great loss.
