I have been aware of the association above, I never had the opportunity to attend one, which I have always wished to do. Living in Florida for many years ( snowbird) we never got back in time to go to one. Like each of you I also wish them a very happy and successful completion of their activities.
During my lifetime my wife and I have travelled very extensivly which does as you know consume a lot of time but gives back tremendous enjoyment.
My wife and I have just finished celebrating our 60th wedding anniversary last month and my 85 th burthday this month. We took a Mediterranian Cruise on the Grand Princess for 16 days, visiting Rome .Monte Carlo, Florence ,Naples ,Turkey, 3 stops in Greece plus a layover of 2 days in Venice. We had a tremendous ball for the entire time. I had a very bad fall last September and broke my back by compacting one disk as well as fracturing it.
So am just getting back on my feet prior to going there. It is because of my back that you have not heard much from me, however I am still here. Both my wife and I are in excellent health and really enjoying life.
You mentioned that there were only a few of us OLD guy's left. Well thats very true. When talking to our adjutant last year year I mentioned to him that Col .Strome Galloway stated in Dec. 44 that only 34 men survived the Invasion and were still with the regiment at that point , of which I a was one. I also mentioned that I believed ( not by any specific count ) that of the 34 which comprised of 9 officers and 25 OR's, that out of the 25 OR's that were there by my count only about 6 or 7 men were from the rifle companies. the balance I believe came from HQ coy.
I askd himn if I were the last RCR survivor of the group. I was advised that I was not, but another memnber also was still living. . Sorry I cannot remenber his name now. I hope he is still as fortunate as I am and continues to have good health.
Nice to see the memo still keep flying around. keep it up guys.
