I would like to throw this discussion out ther to anybody whos driven a 113 in Germany during the  "Cold War ' i would like to nominate Greg Scott as the best all around Lynx dvr. as he was driving a Lynx when I got to Germany in 78 and when I left in 83 ! I remember one time the batattlion is on the side of the rural rd. wating for ords. on one of those late sept. days when the temp. is abouy 70 degees, and out of the distant you see a cloud of dust and wonder what the heck is that ! Then the object gets closer an sure enough  its a Lynx driven by Scottie and hes wering his combat hat and headphones and his eyes are barley above the dvrs. hatch and he has a shit eating grin on ! I always remember that moment

A yes Scotty and a Lynx, that was a dangerous combo. He had to stuff and extra seat cushion on the drivers seat just so he could see over the hatch, but he had no problem reaching the gas pedal because it was always to the floor "LOL"

Did you ever use his "Base cab", in Baden? if you wanted to get somewhere in a hurry, call Scotty. I wonder if he still has that old 3/4 ton that he painted red and drove from 88 to 92.

I remember he used to do the "POPEYE" impression really well, he would have the troops rolling on the ground is was so damn hillariuos. He was in Q Coy CQ in 88-90 and i remember he had Donny Smith Q Coy CQ in stitches most of the time. I think he was the happiest CQ in the battalion. Scotty always had a joke or some humour for someone and never took anything to seriously, he was quite a character.

Does anyone know where he is?

Hey Tony, I can remember guys like Scotty. Another good lynx driver was Brad Haight, dont know if you remember him but I can remember him giviing Hector and Baldwin a good ride one day on Fallex in 82. Not sure if it was WO Hector or if it was Sgt Clevland at the time but he caught so much shit for putting that thing sideways on one of those black tracks we use to take. We had an excellent platoon, good drivers, soldiers and the best Tow Gunners ever....Pro Patria. Russo

Brad Haight and I go way back; he currently lives in the Sioux – I spoke to him just prior to Christmas.  As for Brad being a good Lynx’s Driver...I thought he kept putting the track sideways, because he couldn’t control it, that’s why I never let him drive my car.... (smile).

But I do have to agree with ADP in Baden, having some of the best TOW gunners.  Tony do you recall which two guys took that short shot in Hohenfels; did the dust even clear from the launch, before it hit...!

Cheers,

Dave

Hey Dave : Theres no way i would have let Brad drive my car either ! But i remember one time i fired the Tow and it just cleared
the grass before i caught it ! Plus there was the time in Bergen Hohne with Oquinn and we fired 98 missles in about
1 1/2 hrs. The same time Theriault fired one and it had a broken wire and landed in the RCD Range ! They werent
Too pleased ! Then onto St.Pauli Strauss , for some R&R ! The good old days !  Ciao !

Tony; I recall O'Quinn saying we had two deuce-and-a-halfs - one filled with missiles, and the other beer - I don't know if we'll hit anything, but we're going to have a hell of a time....and we did.    It was during that shoot (98 missiles), that O'Quinn had me fire at the target which was only about 300 yards...you don't remember that.   He told me to aim bottom left, because I'll never have time to correct, and I always pulled up and slightly right.  Anyway, after launch, I could not see a thing, then the sight cleared, and I hit the target.   Regardless, that was a great time, and Hamburg wasn't bad either (grin).

Hey Dave, not sure if you remember me, but I would like to ask you a favour and say hello to Brad Haight for me. Hung out with Brad quite a bit in the Peg when we repatted back in 84. That crazy SOB had me hunting deer at 10pm in the evening from his Nissan Pickup on the outskirts of the Peg one night. I will never forget the hunting expedition in Dundurn Sask with Chuck Martin, Im sure he will remember. Tell him to make sure he makes the reuinion this year. Take care and all the best. Russo.

Hi Gene,

I just got off the phone with Brad, and I mentioned that you were asking about him.  Brad remembers the stories you mentioned, plus some...., and we had a few good laughs.  He said to say Hi, to you and all his old buddies.  Unfortunately, his schedule will not allow him time for the reunion, but again he wishes everyone well, and asked me to buy you a beer on his behalf, which I'll gladly do.

Take care buds!

Hi Tony,

It has been a few years since I was a young Tow gunner and driver in ADP in Germany in 83-84.  Thanks for reminding me of Scottie and his jokes.  Soldiering should be fun and Scottie always made things fun.  Bye the way so did you.
All the best,

Randy Little

Hi Tony, I spoke with Scotty about 2 weeks ago and he was on a reserve contract. His son is in the battalion. He's about 2 feet taller than his old man.
