100th Aniversary

Mike Blais commented that the 100th aniversary weekend was 23 long years ago and i had to comment and pass on a memory of that weekend. On the Saturday night in the bunker and that huge party.. I was standing in the long line to get a beer wearing my ribbon that proudly announced, " I attended the RCR 100th Aniversary".  I noticed in line behind me a very old gentleman in uniform with his medals, and two people on each side of him assisting him, and on his chest was an old tattered ribbon that was faded and read, " I attended the RCR 25th Aniversary". That was 23 long years ago and I'm sure that gentleman is long gone. I can't forget it but rest assured, he never paid for another drink that night....

By the way... does everyone recall that we all had to work at the aniversary weekend and they still made us pay to get in?Huh?
And if i remeber right, it was so hot and we used up all the ice in the whole damn town...

And did we not get the parade square freshly paved for the event during that hot summer and then drive the APC's over the fresh, hot, pavement during a rehearsal....

Hi Dave. Welcome to the board. I sure hope they have a one hundred and twenty fifth reunion in a place where we can all meet and greet for a couple of days. That was one hell of a party, eh?

Hello Dave Hobbins:

Long hot weekend in July 1983 and it was fabulous!  I have photos of the event which I will post whenever I sort out the PhotoBucket method (I am a slow learner).  In the meantime if you want to contact me at <rtwalsh@execulink.com> I can send you some.

All the best, RT Walsh

Dave Hobbins,

How the heck are ya??  Been years.  Hope all is well.  Since the 100th, I have yet to hear such a wonderful sound of Amazing Grace that was played on the sports field that night.  Nor have I seen such a brilliant display of fire works

Take care old friend.

Hello Boys

Yes the 100th was quite the party I recall trying to break up a beer/water fight will Hulio and the boys while I was working and I took the blunt of it. Sgt Major Thompson was giving me heck for my dress and when he found out what happened I was off for the rest of the evening and enjoyed the festivities with the boys. I guess he knew how good of a soldier I was and never getting into trouble haha.Grant give me a call sometime I am currently in the Arctic will be back middle of Dec.

Ron posted a message about the Birthday dinner in London... we should have a meet, have some fun in the mess.... were there enough people attending, I'd make the drive from Niagara.

After my first experience, (or was it my fifth-snicker), I reverted to Heineken and Heineken only.... Oh man, I had some the first night we arrived, wanted to test the local beverage. Anyhow, bout three hours later my eyes snap WIDE open, holy mother of God I barely made it to the crappers. I was gasping, I'm not sheeting you, and I only had two bottles before calling it an early night. The next morning we're marching the Regimental Colours into the Officers mess down at Ledra. I was a young sergeant doing my first and only stint on the colour party, good lord, between dehydration after several hours of guarding the can and squeezing my cheeks for what seemed like the entire time that we bussed down to Ledra from BBC, presented the colours and... ugh... I could not even take a drink of water in the officers mess later, let alone the customary, ah, beverage.  Wink
