A ROYAL CANADIAN "NEVER PASSES A FAULT"

Never pass a Fault.

Oh man, this could be me were I to attend Niagara's city council meetings instead of watching them on television. I think I might send an e-mail to this Halton Hills place and give em a piece of mind. Forbidding a veteran, A Royal Canadian, from attending the Remembrance Day vigil for attempting to correct fault with his duly elected government is reminiscent of commie ville, not Ontario.

Lift ban on vet: Townsfolk
Son of man barred from Halton Hills public property - including cenotaph - gets calls of support
By VIVIAN SONG, TORONTO SUN

Calls to lift a town-imposed ban that would keep a 70-year-old veteran from participating in Remembrance Day activities are gathering strength in Halton Hills.

Town officials banned Derrick Williams from publicly owned spaces the day after he challenged council decisions at a breakfast meeting, but outraged residents are throwing their support behind the town watchdog.

Williams' son John has fielded more than a dozen calls, e-mails and visits to his Georgetown tire shop from residents who have "had enough" of what they call an abuse of power.

Williams is a fixture at council meetings and is known for being "vocal" and loud but not lawless or abusive, supporters say.

That's a right he stood up for as a veteran with the Royal Canadian Regiment, in which he served as a private for six years, John said.

"He (represented) freedom of expression and they're muzzling him because they don't like what he is saying. That's what gets my goat," John said. "The ultimate insult is not being able to participate in Remembrance Day activities."

Dennis Perlin, the township's chief administrative officer, said Williams was banned because he is rude and insulting towards councillors and staff.

Officials say the last straw was when Williams allegedly made a threatening comment about a female councillor. No charges were laid.

"If he had said something and was criminally charged for it, that's a different story," John said. "But this encroaches on his freedom of expression, just because they didn't like what he had to say. That's what pisses me off."

Last week's move to ban a critic is just the latest attempt to muzzle opposition, some residents say.

The town launched a lawsuit against another harsh critic, Al Kirouac, after he published articles slamming a town employee in his online newspaper. The judge threw the case out, saying "the government must not silence its critics by force."

Another town resident, Stephen Grasby, was suspended from using a community centre for three months after he sent the media pictures showing safety hazards on the family changeroom floor.

Hi All; and i agree wholeheartedly with you all. I have sent an email to the local paper in Halton Hills, requesting the council re think their unconstitutional position and get back to real life. I also requested Premier McGuinty intervene if they DO NOT.. that is total garbage...good on him for standing up for what all soldiers standup for every where.. sounds like the town folk are behind him fully... the excerpt was  on a Google alert this am.. ranrad

I dont know if you guys read what else the Town has done but they have done similar acts to other people in the Town so the comment about the Town being in Canada and not North Korea is most appropriate. No wonder politicians are not held in high esteem.

Hey Mike,

Been reading your many letters on this site.  Good to see your doing well.  I've been following this article also.  I'm sure this will not be pushed under the rug, and soon he will recover from this.  Either way, he has the support of all us Royals.  This is close to home for me, as I live in Orangeville.  I will continue to follow.

Take care old friend.....Grant

Oh yes, I remember you but, battalion wise, I do not think we worked together to often. Certainly, your reputation precedes you!  Tell me, what exactly are you doing wayyyyyy up there? Are they refurbishing the DEW line? Hey, is it true about global warming or is it still cold enough to freeze off the giblets... Grant is working in TO, eh? Holy moly, now theres a freaking combat zone! We must have good thoughts for him in his battle against the wackos. As for you... watch out where the huskies go and don't you eat that yellow snow!  Bwhahahaaa.

Y'know its funny how us Royals ended up. I too remustered to Firefighter in 79, got out in 82 to become a copper. I was in Toronto until 85 and now I'm in York which borders Torontos north end. As for wackos Mike? The GTA has more than their share and I just love listening to the punk ass gangbangers talk about how they are soldiers. If they only knew what being a soldier is.

Well Mike

The Dew line is now called North Warning  Systems lots of unmmaned sites, as the Assitant Fire Marshal for our company I do training inspections and test all the fire systems. See lots of polar bears and stay away from the yellow snow. It would be great to have a reunion sometime with all the boys. I run into Dave Baker once on awhile at the SNR NCO,S mess in Ottawa.I see a few Royals in my travels.
Keep up the great stories as I could probably tell a few but who would believe them . I know Jim didn,t during orders parade hahaha
