Thanks John Bain: It is nice to hear from you as well. I actually joined the researves in 1938 in Chatham ,Ont. with the KENT REGIMENT. We were stationed all over Canada from Halifax to Vancouver  then up to Terrace BC. I transferred to the Royals in Late March or early April 1943. Yes , I was 20 yrs old at the time. I am sorry , I do not recognize any of the names from H.Q. company. We did not get a chance to socialize to much John because we were  split up and stationed anywhere space was found. We were in a Choir room of a church. There was a lot of hustle to do before we went to the Invasion. Did nor have much timne to even get to know too many from my own D.coy.

Anyway John , food to hear from you.

John! Please post this picture!

Yes Mike, I considered posting the picture, and even tried to fit it in my scanner, but the pic is bigger than my scanner.  I could scan it half and half, but it may cut out some of the guys.

What do you think?

 To Mike ,Ranrad and all:
You recall I said the Medical chief of Westminster Hospital in London gave me specific instructions  of what to look out for during the rest of life because of the hight tension and colon problem?
I did not tell what it was. It is very good advice , even today.
He told me to keep a VERY CLOSE EYE ON MY COLON for the rest of my life and to WATCH FOR THE FOLLOWING:
If you get the runs, and treat them  with local over the counter drugs for this purpose for a period of TWO WEEKS and the problem still exists  ------ RUN -DON'T WALK to the doctor immediately. Explain the conditions and treatment you have been through and advise him that you suspect YOU MAY HAVE A COLON MALIGNANCY that you feel requires  IMMEDIATE attention  ( to have a colonoscopy). This is what I did for mine.
After having my first one and the surgery, the specialist insisted on doing another one Two years later which was NEGATIVE,  as well as a THIRD one at the Fifth year following surgery which showed TWO MORE POLLOPS  HAD GROWN.They werew removed at the time of the fifth colonoscopy.
Also remember , as I was advised. That Specialsts will NOT do any more colonoscopies after your 80 birthday. REASON?  If you develop them after 80, they grow so slow, you will probably die of other causes, so you should not worry about them after that.    O K?

, and worked with DSM Fred Lewis and the display in Dortmund in 1957.

Dortmund 1957.

If my memory serve me correctly, a fire broke out on one of the back displays.  Seems to me I have pics of this somewhere.  And DSM Lewis crowning achievment was the troops forming the word CANADA by a series of forms, left and right turns in the stadium field.

Here is a pic of yours truly.  Was a detachment commander in anti-tank pl and had just driven in an open jeep, (I think it was just the driver and myself) in the rain, from Ipperwash to Meaford with a 106 mounted.  The dirty hands are a result of the black gloves and the dye from the gloves we wore at the time.  This would have been around 1960/61.

Message to John Bain, George Burrows:

Pte Joe Grigas of A Coy, The RCR in 1943 passed away at Parkwood Hospital in London a few years ago.  Joe got a DCM at Pachino for taking over his section when the Cpl was killed and capturing a battery of coastal guns.

A little while after that Joe shot down a German plane (an ME-109) firing his Bren gun from the hip in bursts.

John and George--can you post your WW II pictures on this photo challenge site?  John, was Doug Bain your Dad?  I knew Doug Bain well in the Home Station Sgts Mess in the era of 1970 to 1976.

The Regtl Adjt would like to get a picture of Joe Grigas for the museum display where his DCM is front and centre.

Best wishes to both of you.

Hello rt:

Yes, that was my dad, he passed in 1981.

The picture I have does not reflect a Joe Grigas.  The picture shows HQ Coy, The RCR, 1940.  There are 19 chaps, all identified...sorry I cannot help.

I have the picture scanned, but it is in 2 part as it is a long photo.  I will post if desired, but cannot guarantee the results.  Looks good on the computer but each half is 1.55MB.  I think reducing it, it may loose the clarity.
