Hey all you old Royals..and I mean old!

Been lurking these boards for a while now, looking for older Royals.

I joined in Mar of 54 - 1RCR - Germany - 55-57 - back to Ipperwash and posted to 2 RCR in
62.  Back to Germany in 65 (with my wife) until 69 and then posted to Cdn Guards in 69 until they re-badged in June or July 70...only Royal posted to the Guards at the time. Undecided

71- posted to Cornwallis and in 73 posted to and was a founding member of CFJLS in Borden.

In 75 I was to be posted back to London but I decided 4 moves in 5 years was enough ....packed it in, came back to London, bought a home and spent the next year attending Loyalist College in Belleville.

Any older Royals out there?

Yes, knew all those guys. I was with anti-tank platton on return from Germany in 58, also RP staff for a year in 60/61, I think Keenyside (sp?) was the RSM or DSM.  How about Charley Hawkes - mortar pl or Gord Watson, Stew Hare, Ed Laporte and many more.  I recall a L/Cpl"Green", nailed me for not swinging my arms high enough in London in 54, I believe Cheesy......are you the same "Green"?

Come back.

Meecham..Meecham..boy know the name, but cannot place a face...were you about 5'7/8 at the time, about a 140 lbs?

Yep, recall old "wart-nose"...eventually took a commission to Captain.  Fred Lewis was RSM in 54, as I recall during my depot training.  Knew Roushorn and Pelley and also knew Loomis.  "Thumper" McCoy was the CO.  I was with A Coy during my time in Germany in 55..spent a lot of time on CB Grin and 21 days in the digger for battling with a guy by the name of Dodge...he was a L/Cpl at the time...actually we both spent 21 days in the digger Cheesy

Do you recall "Blondies" and "The Ranch House" just outside and through a hole in the fence, behind Fort York?

Sorry do not know Ollie Alanko...or recall him.

Come back.

Hi Jim:

I believe that is Lt Col  Johnson in the pictures.  I recall he had a horse and would go riding in the Ipperwash area.  On RP staff one day, it was a Sunday,  he approached the gate on horse back which I had to swing open.  Now we took pride in our flower beds just inside the gate and Johnson was a stickler for maintaining these bed.  When I opened the gate the horse with Johnson on his back gallop through the beds.

Having accomplished the rank of RSM you must know "Berney" Hurley, Art Thompson or Thomkins and Bob MacDonald.  Art and I went through depot together.  Or how about Johnny O'Quinn and his brother Raymond (RIP).  John and I were attached to Brigade HQ during the summer in Petawawa in 60 or 61.  I was responsible with a team of guys to construct Brigade HQ during exercises.  I think my record to construct the HQ was a minute and a half....LOL....everybody was in a hurry.

Oh yeh....while I think of it Bob MacDonald..."Handsome" Frank Hussey and another chap (can't think of his name at this time, but he was a PTI)  attended a Curling Bonspiel in Switzerland around 67 or 68.

Come back.

Mike,
Im dying to tell ya what happened on Ron's last jump cause I know and he is my cousin but I'll let him tell you.
Jerry
Hey Mike :
I hope you don't know my cousin Jerry , He is a living south end of a horse going North.  Now with that settled ....My lines got entangled over my main chute and I came down a little bit fast.  Pulled my reserve and it fell between my legs and by the time I shook the lines and the reserve opened,  they say I was a hundred feet  or so from the ground.  Landed with full equipment never got a chance to lower any thing.  Glad it was a winter jump that little bit of snow may have helped.  Next thing I remember was Joe Dwyer  from N.S shaking me  screaming " You O.K Trooper, over and over" .  I'll never understand why we were never issued with brown pants Smiley)) Like  a true Royal I carried on until  I was pulled out of the exercise .  Had a sprained ankle and some sore bones. (Other injuries showed up later )  Thankes to that jump I now have have two brand new knees and a new hip.  I made the front page of The London Free Press and I still have the reserve handle and newspapaer clippings framed in my family room. That jump ended my career.  End of story Mike.

You carried on? Holy crap, today you'd be carried alright... right to the freaking hospital! Brown pants indeed, sheeesh, was there even time to say high to Jesus? Yowser! What a ride, eh? Two knees and a hip seems a fair trade considering the alternative I suppose.  Smiley

How much snow was there?

Hey Mike:
As I recall there might have been a foot of snow on the Drop Zone ,not a whole lot.  We did have snow shoes but the snow was hard enough  to support you and wind sweeped ,you  know what I mean.  We used to secure our rifle and snowshoes together and lower them when ever.  I remember coming through (knocked myself out) and Joe shouting at me.The rifle barrel and snowshoes a few inches from my head.  another couple of inch .......I could have another hole in my head ,that was the scary part.   By the way we were jumping out of the old C119's "The Flying Boxcar"  Made a few jumps from the C130's  beautifull aircraft.

Well, Ron, I'm a leg, as they say, so I wouldn't know... hahahaaaa... but I like a good story when I hear it and that was a good one. We need more stuff like that around here, in fact.

Hey, I met a fellow the other day from your era, any of you guys happen to remember a William, or Bill, Robson? He came from Niagara Falls and jumped during the boxcar era. Was in Ipperwash during the fifties...
